8 NR Elk Points

Howdy Ya'll, if you had 8 NR Elk points, where would you use them in 2019 or wait a few years? Point creep is affecting all units in Wyoming it seems, dang! I am into DIY and have a good camp and equipment, not that interested in an outfitter, nothing against outfitters, just seems like a lot of money for a gamble and I can hunt. Thanks very much in advance!

Why wait? Lots of great units in Wyoming worthy of those 8 pts. A good LQ area will get you a great experience. Do you archery hunt or strictly rifle? Some good type 9 tags now for archery only hunters.
Not all of the big bulls are in Western Wyoming look all over the state at odds and pick an area. Get an any elk tag and if a bull doesn't fill it a cow may and they taste even better.
A DIY elk hunt is not a hard prospect for a seasoned hunter.

Thanks, probably going to wait a couple of years because I have other hunts I have planned. I do bow hunt and was thinking of doing that but I am concerned of getting an elk out of a roadless area before spoiling. I have two boys in college and may wait til they are out and then we all pool our points for a family rifle hunt. That's the plan anyway, just looking out ahead because you can't plan enough hunts I guess because some day, it will all be over but the crying!

You may be a little premature in planning because of all that "point creep". Dang...

point creep or not....its nice to know you are somewhere close to drawing vs. a random draw....which is random...I put in for the same Idaho deer tag with 50-50 draw odds and only drew 1 time out of 12 years. with points it would have been once every 2 or 3 years.

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

Preaching to the choir here Tree

Use them in 2019. Point creep will not get any better. That is why I asked why wait til after 2019?
If you can get your boys up to help you bring them along.
Meat spoilage is not as big a problem as some think. By Oct elk season temps should be ok for hanging your animal in the field,i.e forest.
I say apply in 2019 and come enjoy an elk hunt. Get 2 pts for your boys then they may have a chance to hunt with you not just pack your elk.

Even archery season is usually cool enough to fend off spoilage. You will not find many roadless areas to hunt just areas with fewer roads. With a game cart you can haul out a whole elk in 1 trip with 2 people. Used one just that way without a road to roll it on.
Otherwise 3 guys will easily haul out an elk in 1 trip and that will help mitigate spoilage.
I'm just saying point creep will probably not get any better, plan that 2019 hunt or if the timing isn't right keep buying those points and use them when you can.
I know a great archery only tag with chances at good bulls, and many areas with great elk hunting for your points. With that number of points you could hunt in 2019 then accum. some more points and draw some tags with your boys.
