The 1963 Corvette split window is one of the most sought after collector cars around. Back about 1968 my cousin bought one. He drove up to Eureka and we took it out to the beach. The first 100 yards or so was dry soft sand so we had to really get a run at it to make it out to the hard sand along the ocean.
Once we got out there we set up an obstacle course with some sticks we found. We took turns driving to see who could run it the fastest. We did that for three days in a row, stopping mostly to go to town to gas up. I never laughed so hard in my life!
It didn't even cross our mind to wash all the sand and salt water off when we were done. Back then muscle cars were not to take care of, they were to see how much abuse they could take, and see how much fun you could have.
You can buy the cars now I guess, but you can't buy the fun and the memories!
