LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-17 AT 02:31PM (MST)[p]So i usually don't have problems figuring out the unit I want to hunt, but WY has proven to give me headaches trying to figure out the private/public access issues for a guy from Alabama. I've always hunted big expanses of national forest and I know I could hunt the western side of WY and accomplish this but I really don't want to contend w the grizzlies if I can avoid that. I just got back from a successful DIY muzzy elk hunt in Utah! If I can help anyone there I'll be glad too it or several other states. My question is what unit(s) would be good for a DIY with 5 points(special or regular). The season dates also make a difference to me as some open earlier, later etc. I'm mainly looking at a rifle hunt but if dates worked I'd bowhunt last of sept and then do rifle. I have initially looked at the bighorn units but I hate the dates and I understand weather can come earlier and drastically affect the rifle hunt a lot of years and it's a good many tags. Also I have a couple other units in mind if you'd rather PM that's cool! I'm not opposed to any other unit if it's not dead center in grizz country. I would love to hunt some of this grizzly country but just not sure it's the best idea to do by myself and never been around them either. And I don't want a guided hunt. I should add I'm not terribly concerned with score either. I want to hunt a mature bull and take something that's representative of the area and if that's 300 or 350 I don't care! Thanks guys!
