The USS Forrestal caught fire. What a shitttty way to die.

The Forrestal was my first ship, but a few years later. They were still, and always will, push forward with fire drills as part of indoc training.

Big honk'n boat. (killing 134, injuring 161, destroying 21 aircraft). Bad deal all the way around.

Thanks for your service FEDUC. You should be proud.

I had already been discharged in Feb. '67 and in July 1967 I was in Bangkok, Thailand for a month in order to get a temp VISA back to VN to get a new job. Might have read about the ship but don't recall it now...sorry to hear that and so many lives lost too.

Was in the air Navy, stationed at NAS CUBI PT, Philippines.

I had been on that ship only 9 days prior to the incident.

When they tied up at the dock in Cubi, it was a somber few days.

It took a long time to get the casualty list to us "minions", so we didn't know chit for information about friends and crews.

America chalked up some HEROS' that day.

yep, still one of the worst disasters in our Navy. when i joined they were still drilling the situation into us NUBS in'99.

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?
