.45 semi auto legal?

quick question. under new short range regs allowing the use of handguns that were not originally intended or rifles im a tad confused. so legally i can use my .45 semi auto during a short range cow hunt? thanks for any feed back

is it legal? YES. IS is smart? NO!
A 25 auto would also be legal but again not smart. I talked to the F&G a lot about this and said someone would do something stupid like shooting deer with a 25 auto or a elk with a 45 auto. If you enjoy short range hunting and want to use a pistol use enough gun. Ron

hey thanks ron! i was just wondering it didn't make much sense to me and also mostly for a finishing off weapon instead of sticking it again and spend30bucks on replacing the arrow and not an instant kill. love to hunt but don't like to see them suffer when its not necessary. have thought about hunting with a pistol though in the future what size that's legal would you recommend? i know when you get in the larger sizes its a little iffy on the originally designed for rifle side. thanks!!!

I have a 44 mag that I load 300 gr bullets for. I think that would be the minimum for a hunting gun. I have shot deer with it and it works well. a 45-70 pistol is illegal. A 45 colt is fine but a little on the light side. I think a 357 mag is WAY too small. I am not sure I would want to shoot a gun much bigger than the 454. Ron
