Are range finders used in 3D shoots. They look like they could be fun just to do for practice. Not interested in the super fancy target stuff but would be fun with my hunting bow.
If you are entered in the shoot for money or trophy then ofcourse not.....
If it is a big shoot you would likely get beat down pretty hard for having one on the course, However I have gone to several smaller shoots where guys brought them and just took their mane out of the running for a trophy and used them...
I think that trying to figure the yardage is half the fun of a 3d shoot.

There are marked and un-marked courses. On marked courses rangefinders are fine. I shoot 3D just to prep for hunting myself and don't really care about score. Using ALL of your equipment is the best preparation for your hunt. My $.02.
There are 3d shoots all over Utah. Most that I shoot will allow range finders. Pick up a UBA news letter at your local archery shop.
Their are 3d league nights at Utah Archery Center in SLC, Humphries archery in American Fork, Tooele has some also just not sure where.
If you want to work on your shooting 3d leagues are great but don't limit yourself to just foam. Field leagues and spot leagues will teach you how to shoot. Here?s why in 3d you only get one shot maybe two shots at a target. In field and spot shoots you get up to 5 shots per target at longer yardages. Timp Archers has an outdoor range that is probably the best in Utah it also has 3d targets. This is located in the mouth of Provo canyon. Call jakes archery in Orem for details.
Shooting in anyone of these shoots will make you a better shooter.
