33 year old Crane

I shot a banded Black Brant that was 17 years old. The numbers were not visible, but Fish and Wildlife was able to acid wash it to where they could read it. Salt water does that, I guess.

That's a tough old bird at 33.

I had no idea they lived that long. In 1990, I was hunting geese in Thatcher Utah with a couple of friends. Some geese came right over our heads and of course I missed the first two shots. I clipped the last one and watched it coast past a few fields before going down. It was banded and I sent the band in.
I received a reply that it was banded in 1974 or earlier (not sure why they did not know the year).
