.308 ELK & MULE DEER BULLET 165g ????

What would you suggest for a .308 in 165g bullet to use for elk and mule deer out to 300 yds. I'm thinking SGK, Hornady SST, Rem corelok, Speer Grand Slam. Any Suggestions would help. Thanks.

I used the 165 Fed. Sierra Game King out of a 20" barrel at about 2650 fps. On mule deer at 217 it drilled right through creating a mess of the lungs and a fairly large exist wound.

I used the Federal Vital Shok with the 180 Nosler Partition out of the same rifle at about 2550, and at about 60 yards on a large bodied bull it drilled right through. Entry and exit where about the same size, fortunately it went through the shoulder and framentation of the bone did him in.

That's my limited experience.

I have shot many deer with my .308 using the 165 scirrocos and boy does it do a number on them. Never shot an elk though. I tried nosler partions once, hit a deer four times before it went down. All shots were chest and shoulder area. Won't use them again. Lots of people like them but I had great performance (one shot drops) with the scirrocos.

Thanks cheesehead. I have to get some bullets pretty quick and get loading. I settled on Region C at the last minute. Thanks again for all the info and pick on region A. I still havent made it to Cabela's yet. I may be going soon. I need to gets some boots and hunting clothing. Thanks Brian
