As suspected, the numbers are garbage. Below are the tail ends of the CDOW 2020 harvest reports for ALL deer. They are self-explanatory.

If the TOTAL deer harvest for the entire state was 38,899 in 2020 & 36,389 for 2019, can we really believe the WHITETAIL BUCK ONLY harvest in 2021 was 35,366?

No, me thinks that is the TOTAL deer harvest. In fact, I'd bet all of the figures used in that article are TOTAL deer harvests. I don't know much about Oregon's deer harvest, & I'm too lazy to delve into it, but I tend to think that 36,315 is for all deer in that state, as well.

The 2021 numbers are not available for OR either, but these are the 2020 figures. Again, the one used in the article is a total of all species, not just whitetails. In 2020, the totals for rifle & archery bucks were about 30,026 & 4837, respectively.

That's the point -- it seemingly cites those numbers as the total whitetail harvest. And that is far from true. It's all just a big jumble without even mentioning other buck species if they were meant to be included.
