3-D target?

Is a 3-D target really worth it, or would something like the yellow jacket do it? What is a good 3-d target for a tight budget? One that will withstand a lot of broadhead shots. I was just thinking it would probably be better to shoot at something with the same shape, size, etc.

Thanks,

I would suggest the Glendale buck 4 sided replacable center. They last a long time. You would get your moneys worth.

i have a blue ridge from wal-mart have shot it alot and it was around 70.00 i like it but hey in my life wal-mart get's most of my cash....

For anti hunters they sure have alot of hunting supplies there and as such will have to do until a Sportmans comes to town.

Girlbowhunter, While I'm sure that a case could be made that Walmart is antihunting, I'm not sure that is really true. Given the fact that they are one of the largest retailers of hunting and fishing related product sales in the USA. Couple that with the fact that they sell rifles, shotguns, and hunting and fishing licenses in most all states that would seem to indicate otherwise. Many a small sporting goods store has fallen prey to this giant concern and they will tell you first hand that they didn't look antihunting to them in any way. Believe me many a retailer would love to have the hunting portion of Walmarts sales alone.

You are right on on the Glendale buck target it would be a good broadhead animal target.

The 3-D targets (Glen-Del Buck)are nice to practice with. BUT, bear in mind they have metal in them. The spinal area, brisket, legs. I contacted Field Logic and discussed the construction with them and they said the metal was for support purposes. Well, that support metal will trash the S*&$ out of carbon arrows and broadheads. Just be aware of it everybody, its not fun to discover after the shot.

Hope everyone had some luck on the draws.

come on now wal mart anti hunter??? girl your giving me hell for my matthews thread aren't you??? i know we need to support our local economy but sometime's it is cheaper to do the wally world thang. Mack

Will keep it flowin! Working at an archery store I dont make much money. But I refuse to give money to a company that is going to take over the stores in our neiborhood. and supports anti hunting. Besides where are all the junky hunting supplies at Walmart in the heart of the season when you really need them?

GOsh sorry guys I must have been misinfomed from the ten customers that lost there mom and pop businesses because of the 2 Walmarts coming into Prescott. I guess when all the other businesses go bankrupt they can really raise thier prices and then we will be stuck.

Yea, know. If you honestly want a great deal on a 3d target, go on down to your local archery shop and see if they have some used ones for sale. Dans shop down here, Pacific Archery quite often will sale me a 3d target for 20-30 bucks. The legs still hold the full sized animal up and I have put maybe 500 arrows into each one. It seems to be a really cheap way for what you are looking for.

Hey Buck,

I would look into the Morrel Bionic Buck target -- you'll need shoulder surgery before it wears out. Try and buy it at your local bow shop or see if he will order one for you instead of buying from the big guys.

I've been thrilled with mine, BUT, having said that, I have found the Block and the Yellow Jacket to be very effective in my shooting practice. They will help your shooting and they last for a very long time. I always imagine a target on whatever I shoot ( target, 3D or game) and it works for me.

Thanks for the replies. I live in the Salt Lake area and was wondering what shops use the 3-D targets. I usually shoot at Lee Kay so I don't know what ranges use the 3-D targets. Can anyone tell me what ranges use them so I can contact them?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-14-05 AT 08:39AM (MST)[p]Girlbowhunter, The only statement that I disagreed with was the anti label being put on Walmart. If you read my post you will clearly see that I stated that many a small business has fallen prey to them. I have personal friends that suffered the same plight as you mentioned. The reason archery shops can and will survive with the big box stores is because of the expertise and service they provide. You can't get anything fixed at Walmart and they most definately can't help you with tuning issues and making sure you have a properly splined arrow. They don't have the knowledge to set you up with the proper draw length bow. If you have read many of my previous posts I strongly encourage individuals to support their archery dealers. Opposition to Walmart is certainly fine but let's do it for the right reasons and in this case it wasn't anti hunting. One of the reasons your shop has been in business so long is because it provides a service and a product assortment Walmart will never be able to duplicate.

Unfotunatly because of evry one buying at walmart buy wages are not even enough to pay the bills or to supply myself with arrows. So I dont know how much longer I can do this .Id really miss taking a bow apart and putting it abck together , or setting them up and also those hunting stories that those guys come and cant wait to to tell me about that I thrive on that there wives have no concern of. boy are they missing out.

I have been a customer of Vans for quite a while before you started working there. I understand your point and it is well taken except for the AH part. My name is Chris Agnew and my wife and I have been customers for years. Even though I don't live in Prescott I have bought a few bows from Van over the years and forwarded some customers as well. Have shot quite a few shoots up there with the Granite Mountain Boys and enjoy going up there whenever we can. Throw out a frisbee for the buck for me and have a nice weekend. You guys have a nice shop and I wish you only the best. Regards, CA.

Anyone tried the Cabela's deer target? I heard mixed opinion about their turkey target but nothing about the deer.
