I got a call. 'Doc, we need you to come in. We have a bad one. A pilot hit a mountain during a night bombing run'.
He was deceased, but a lot more intact than one would think. He could have had an open casket funeral. And not a singe mark on his body, despite being soaked in jet fuel.
The next day, I was at crash site #1 when I got a call about another crash. Three crew and 10 SEALs in an SH-60 had impacted the side of a canyon during an insert. Everyone walked away, save for one of the crewmen. His remains would not be found for two days.
Memorial day has a deep meaning for many of us.
I don't care if you celebrate with a BBQ, Camp trip, etc. Please take the time to remember Jon and Mike or folks like them.
