Hey guys. Looking for input on a pelt friendly.243 bullet for coyotes. Buddy would prefer a factory load. He's a taxidermist, and would prefer to lessen pelt damage. It's the only rifle he owns, so it has to be a .243 load. Any help would be great. Thanks. Dave.

light barnes x or xtp small entry hole and if you use a light bullet it should'nt exit but will jell the insides for a quick kill, if you go to copper make sure you completely clean your bore for best accuracy

He bought some win. 55 gr ballistic tips to try but I'm thinking they will make a massive entry hole if he connects with a shoulder or rib. I've shot them with 30 cal soft points while deer hunting and it didnt seem to tear them up too bad. Would a 6mm 100 gr sp make a big exit hole?? Just thinking out load here. I've never pelt hunted just wanted them dead right there. dave

Been shooting Berger. Will leave a big hole if you hit bone, like the shoulder, but otherwise not bad.

Is that ethical?

I have use the BT 55gr and they don't a bad job at all, they do flatten out a bunch on the thick bones(Shoulder, back,) but the ribs they don't mushroom too bad and leave a huge hole. Speed of the bullet is more key then you would think.
We used some metal-jacketed one year They flat sucked.

I'd stick with the heaviest soft point your .243 will stabilize. Coyotes are thin skinned animals and the lighter bullets like to put big holes through them. I shoot 75 grain v-maxes in my .243 and it's about 50/50 on whether there is a big hole or not. I really like the .243 because it puts them down hard but you might have to do a little sowing.
