Not sure what response I will get, but here it goes. My brother came back from Iraq with PTSD and it led to a major drinking problem. After two years of battling the addiction and multiple rehab clinics we finally have him on the wagon. I promised to take him on a special hunt(planned on Cali hogs) if he stayed off the bottle for a year. Well he's just about there and he wants a DIY whitetail hunt in Idaho. I have never even considered hunting them before and feel a little overwhelmed. The two areas I have started looking at are area 1 and 15. A few questions I had were, are the whitetails mostly on private in these areas? Are grizzly bears bad in these areas? And would you recommend a different unit? Last question would be, what time of year is ideal to scout? I'm definitely not rich and have three other hunts so he will be the sole tag holder and will shoot any buck. Thanks for any advice or responses you may have.
