I'm looking for any info about this big "Antler Run". I have read about it and it seems like a really fun thing to do. I have heard that you need to be there a few days before it starts, just to get your truck in line.
Is it really worth it? I would be driving about 4 hours to get there and I would like to come home with at least 5 elk sheds or so. What do you guys think about it? I know it's crazy up there, but I would like to experience it.
Anybody go every year? What's it like?

Thanks,
HJB

I heard guys go in early to get all the big ones! from the photos i have seen i would stay home, unless a couple rag horns do the trick for ya.

It is definitely a crazy circus. They let you onto the refuge 24 hours before the start time, which is 8 am on May 1st. Before then everyone is waiting on the streets in town. Some guys are there several days in advance.

Don't count on coming out of there with 5 sheds, especially if you will be walking. Most of the guys that get more than 3 sheds are on horses. You should be happy if you find 2 or 3 sheds. Some walkers got lucky and found more but not many.

Last year I would say about 25-30% of the people did not find any sheds...at least the guys on the south end (I think it's called Flat Creek). The first guys in line to go up the south end didn't find anything, except tickets on their 4 wheelers for lack of proper registration when they got back to the parking lot.

I found 2 sheds, one of my friends found one shed & my other friend found a 330 matched set.

Good luck to you & I hope you have a good time. I did but I probably won't be going this year. I have other plans.

I went last year and It was my first year. I had read a ton of info on the net. It didn't really prepare me for the experience. I was crazyer than I thought. I showed up about 7pm the night before they opened (8am the next morning) and I was like 200 in line. I seriously couldn't even see the front of the line because it was so far ahead of me. I got lucky and found two sheds. One was a small 5 point and they other was a really nice 6 point. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to get closer to the front of the line. I know the refuge won't let you on until 8 am the day before opening but where does everyone line up before the line up. People wait for 3 or 4 days....where, and what keeps everyone from just lining up on the refuge 3 days before the opener

cops keep you from going on, I've been four years in a row and the crazyness varies, but i have been lucky and never got skunked, but I would say last year it was more like 40% found none and 30% found 1-3 and the rest varied, this year will be unreal i would guess, because it is a Saturday and the ammount of people without work. I like it because of the race, but don't be sad if ya find little ones

LAST EDITED ON Jan-19-10 AT 11:19AM (MST)[p]I can go 3 or 4 places within an hour of my house, not see anybody else, and find 2 or 3 sheds just about any day in the spring. So Screw the Jackson idea!

Come on HBJ, don't be a party pooper......ats all in the experience! P.S. is anything I suggested helping you out on your weight loss goals????
