Well January is coming in fast and it will be time to put in for Wyoming elk again. My hunts this year are over and I may be nuts but I am already planning ahead. I know I am not putting in for a region with max points, screwed that up this year with my deer points. Lesson learned. Just need to figure out what area??? Anyone else looking ahead??

I here that! I just got back from North Dakota, officially ending my 09 season. I can't apply until May though, gives me plenty of time to worry about it.

Why aren't you putting in for a region for deer with max points? I've got max points for a non-resident and have been looking at region G or H for a hunt area. The draws are pretty confusing because now I feel like I'll be wasting points. Are there any better hunts to put in for? I'll be doing a DIY mule deer/ antelope hunt in 2010 on public land.

I unfortunatly too are looking ahead but will have to wait until 2011 to go. Have my first child on the way and will not be able to hunt out of state in 2010. Seems like me and my dad are in the same boat as a whole lotta other people sitting on max points wondering what to do. We do have a few units picked out with decent draw odds but it seems the high demand units still only have a 8-12% draw. Oh well at least i have a full year to do more research.

It looks like most of the guys that are left in the max point pools are holding out for the premium units like 60 / 61 Antelope, 58/30/100 Elk, 128/102/82 Deer, etc... The odds for those units are going to improve VERY slowly due to the very low tag numbers. GOOD LUCK. Chip

The unit I applied for last year went from 28% in 08 to 38% percent in 09. Thats max point, regular draw. Thats how points are supposed to work, right????

Oh yeah, its working. I like the system. My point was that it starting to shake out now and you can kind of see whats happening. A high percentage of the guys in the max pool are holding out for the units I mentioned. Some of those odds increased from like 5% to 8% so even if you're in the max pool it could still be 10 - 15 years before you get a tag. Some of the ''middle '' units odds will increase much faster for the guys in the max pool. Chip
