LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-05 AT 12:04PM (MST)[p]Anybody able to shoot the new Hoyts bows for 2006 Yet, if so what do you think??

Website release is set for around Nov.1. They have a new model out called the Trykon that comes in 33 & 36 ATA. It looks like a ultratec with paralell limbs that should be a winner. It has a new draw specific cam that's between the Cam.5 and the Spiral cam in performance I think it's called the Zephyr Cam. The riser has anti vibration dampners. It shoots very smoothly according to what i've been told. I have not shot one. Early reports are that they may have hit it out of the park on this one.

They have or had one down at Sportsmans Archery earlier in the week. My buddy shot one and said it was a great bow. Goofy looking things they are though :)

Cheers,
Pete

WapatiBob, I disagree and agree, the bow with a tec riser looks nothing like most competitors bows. The fact the Hoyt has kept their more traditional bow lines in addition makes a strong statement. Hoyt has always been a good company that made a quality product that was user friendly. There are benefits in the recoil department with the limb placement in a more parallel position that can be beneficial to the shooter. These bows do have their differences with split limbs, tec riser, 2cam Zephyr cam.5 technology and some other attributes that make it quite different than the competition. Bowtech and Mathews and others make some fine products and if this bow is just a notch up over what they currently produce we all win.

You're right all the top bow manufactuers are not cheap. (Hoyt, Mathews, Bowtech, etc.,) But you get what you pay for too, although my last Hoyt was as cheap as they come (free). :)

I have to admit, the Tricon looks like a heck of a lot like the Switchback with the parallel limb design, but having great Hoyt limbs and a more advanced cam system--this bow should be a winner!

I went to my proshop today to meet the Hoyt rep and Shoot the new Trykon. Well let me tell you something they are smooth as silk, very pleasing to the eye, with no hand shock, a nice grip and are Fast! I shot the 33' and the 36" model and they were both nice. I thought the 36" model was a little heavy but it was stable as a rock and was very accurate. The 33" model was the only bow with that short ATA length that I can honestly say I have ever considered. I currently shoot an Ultratec. Both of these new models are winners! There are two new cast riser models the Powertec and Lazertec that are very nice and will come in at a more reasonable price point. They look nice and shoot well and you'll like the new risers with most of the upper models goodies. There's also a new Woman's model the Selena and it's one nice shootable package. The ladies that shot it wouldn't put it down and loved the bow! There's some good stuff out this year from Hoyt so if you're in the market for a new bow check it out towards the middle to end of Nov. These new bows just keep getting better and better and when you shoot one you'll understand just what I mean.

I didn't chrony them but they shoot pretty fast. Very comparable to my Ultratec IMO. I also forgot to mention on the Trykon that you can adjust the wall on the cam for a hard or soft wall. They have a speed rating 316 on the 33" and 314 on the longer model. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bosk, I think Hoyt is the only company that undershoots the actual speed. I bought a new Protec during the summer and it was rated at 300 fps, I figured once I subtracted an inch of draw length and put a peep and a D-loop on the string I'd be around 280 fps. To my surprise the bow shoots right on 294! Not bad for a bow with 8"+ brace height and regular cam1/2....but that's another story....

By the way Wileywapiti, the Powertec and Lazertec models will come in around the $450.00-$500.00 price point with most of the bells and whistles available. The major differences between the two are laminated limbs and a slight difference in brace height. They have new cast risers and have a real nice weight to carry so you may want to have a look. FYI.

You are right you do get what you pay for, and most of what you are paying for is an advertising budget.
