This is my 1st post so forgive me if I don't do everything right.
This is my first year of serious shed hunting and I have been extremely lucky. Very few "browns" but some impressive older horns.
I found my area by watching bucks in Dec & Jan while duck hunting. Strange combination I know. I found my first set totally by accident. They were about a mile apart and found on two different trips. The 1st horn (with broken tip) wasn't to impressive until I found the match. It has unusual burrs and an impressive eyeguard. It also wraps around like a whitetail.
The elk antler must have been last years (very white on the upside and dark brown on the down)
This is great sport and I enjoy reading and seeing others success.
I also am training my dogs to bring in antlers. So far they have brought in 3 but in each case I saw the antler in the distance before they picked them up. I'm a little nervous about the wolves being around and chasing my dogs. Last trip found fresh tracks and places they had been laying.
