$140,000 deer

Not a chance for me, I don't think I could even pay him $140, for $14 yes I would but that's just me.

Well, in the first place, it ain't sold yet.

In the second place, the mount is just a "thing", like a painting, an old rifle, or Elvis's last Cadillac.

Somebody paid $180,000 for the Colt.45, John Wayne used in "The Shootist". What's the difference?

Got any idea what the top 3 sporting goods chain stores have shelled out for mounts over the years......and a lot of them are reproductions!

The hot decorating item in Hollywood and Boston, over the last couple of years, has been antlered mounts.

It may come as a shock to some hunters on here, but outside of a VERY small circle of your peers, nobody else in the real world, will ever even ask who, where, when, or how, the buck was killed.......

LAST EDITED ON Feb-03-10 AT 11:58AM (MST)[p]Anyone know for sure how much Cabelas paid for the Burris buck? For some reason I thought it was $50K but I do not know.

If so however, $140K is a bit out of the slot.

I guess hard core collectors actually determine what the "value" is.

Value depends on how much or how little the buyer will pay.

Beautiful buck.

NO GUTS, NO STORY!!

Didn't Schauffler(sp?) buy the Broder buck for $240.000? Might be alot to us, but I think it will sell.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-03-10 AT 01:27PM (MST)[p]I was looking through the google results for the "Mundy buck", and noticed this website:

http://club.kingsoutdoorworld.com/gallery/2002/gallery_md1202.shtml

It lists the antler credit for rainbowsendbb.com.

Isn't the owner of the rainbows end bed and breakfast the guy that got busted for poaching a few years back? If I remember, he shot a huge buck and made up a story about when and where, and after an investigation, it was discovered he shot it after the season closed.

I think this is the thread it was discussed in.

The guy has several other huge racks on sale on his website.
http://www.rainbowsendbb.com/index.html

I wonder how many of them are legit and legal.

It looks like he also may have changed his name since his poaching arrest. The owner is now listed as A. Matthews when in 2007 it was Aly Bruner. The owner's picture on the website though is the same.

A buck of this caliber on ebay? Don't they have special auctions for things this valueable? Ebay just seems a little generic for an item of this stature.

Interesting what the seller posted on that thread. I wonder what made him change his mind and lower the price.
