114 or 58 Antelope????

Wanting to cash in my PP. I have 10 points i'm looking at 114 or 58 this season. What are your thoughts on 80"+ bucks in these units? Which would you choose?

I hunted 58 last year. Had a fun hunt. Scouted a a couple days and I decided to shoot a goofy horned one on first morning, not a good scoring lope but was cool with the horn going 90 degrees to side. Buddy shot a 84" on day 2 that we had found scouting.

I regularly see big antelope in 58. And killed a big one there in 2014. That being said, the biggest antelope I've ever seen was last year in area 114. Could have been a fluke deal. But he was the biggest I've ever seen by a pretty good margin.

114 has good numbers of goats and some book animals if you put in the time and look a lot of them over.

My vote goes to 114 easy ! Take your time, look over lots of bucks, no getting trigger happy, there are some book bucks there every year. I never was able to draw that unit even as a resident even after 10 years ! That unit gets little hype, but it is a trophy/book head area. Last 2 weeks of season would be best, hope for snow & cold, prepare for it too ! Bucks & antelope herd up & you can look over lots of bucks & compare heads of lots of bucks, look for very long PRONGS & MASS, length last. Jerry Gold--Ft Collins, Co. E M: [email protected]

I hunted hard spent the first 4 days before the season opened scouting I probably looked at 120+ different bucks and found 2 that I thought were good only one that I was sure was 80+ I killed this goat and ended up going 83 6/8" and I couldn't be more happy but I don't think I will be saving 10 points to go back there again but that's just my 2 cents and I am definitely no antelope expert.

Scouted hard for 4 days to find him huh?!!! Do you realize that you have to look over a ton of bucks in just about any unit to find a great buck like you shot and to find and shoot him with just 4 days of scouting is really something IMHO! Please realize ones like that aren't around every corner and FYI that buck you shot just missed making the all time B&C Book if the score you mentioned is correct.

I do feel more like I just got lucky than that 114 is worth that many points but that's just one perspective from someone who hunted there last year.

Dang hard to find an 80" buck. I hunted unit 57 a couple of years ago and saw lots of 75" bucks. Ended up shooting a extremely heavy buck that scored 79 5/8 after 60 days. He was the biggest I saw in 4 days . Did see one bigger while scouting but he was on private land. If you find one around 80" it would be damn hard to pass . I have one already in at 83" and couldn't resist the mass of the one I shot. I did see some good 75-78" bucks on the border of unit 58

Yep! I had a brain fart when I made that almost made it statement. 80" is the yearly awards minimum and 82" is the all time minimum.

Look up the number of B&C bucks entered. Divide by the number of hunters (has to be by county but that can be extrapolated). That'll give you the answer.

That really doesn't tell you much because many people don't enter ones that would make the book. My buddy has one that made the all time book and another that made the yearly awards and might have squeaked into the all time book, but he was never officially measured. Neither were entered into any contests or record books. Let's just suffice it to say that not many break 80" out of all that are taken each year.

I agree. That's why I didn't pass on a 79 5/8 net buck. Just find the one you like and shoot

I have max/12 pts going into 2018 and am tossing these two units around along with 1 other unit.

It might just come down to pulling a number out of a hat for me.

Don't decide til spring, well spring for most of you, May in Wyoming is not spring yet.
Wait for winterkill and winter range reports next year.
No area will be a trophy unit each year, conditions change and winterkill can be devastating.
Lots of great areas in Wyoming to use those PP. Herd numbers and ratios will be out after winter counts and flights.
You might find a sleeper unit.
