11/211 road conditions

I’m going to make a trip down to scout/get a feel for 4th deer. Is a SxS necessary with the weather coming? Was it still muddy since last snows? How’s the roads, is it more efficient to use a wheeler (Rocky/rough). I’d rather not bring one and get there quicker, but beating up my truck/slipping in mud wouldn’t be fun either. Thoughts/experience? Thanks. Rob

Who knows? I havent been up there. In Grand Junction, it has pretty much dried up since the last snow...which was a doosie. I'd expect the same up there.

Now, the reason that I say, Who Knows...starting Saturday the 7th, tis supposed to rain, off and on, for 3 days..., the question, how long and how hard? They are not peedicting anything like the last one. At the very least, bring chains

it's dried up for now but it's going to get wet with the moisture coming this weekend so chains would be advised if you don't want to use your side by side. Be greasy even on a side by side.

Buddy of mine hunted 3rd and saud the mud crippled their hunt. Good luck infourth.

Take the SXS Mud was a doosie during 3rd season, plus even without mud there is a ton of country you cant cover in a truck that you can with a sxs.

I’ll be in there this week. From growing in the unit you certainly need serious 4 wheel drives and a side by side/4 wheeler. I personally run a built Toyota Tacoma paired with a Polaris ranger crew to get around. Tire chains are MUST!

It was typical unit 11/211. Full of people and not enough snow, but my buddy and myself dug some bulls up opening day.

I was there for 6 days and never seen a buck over 140. I’d personally avoid the NW Colorado units as far as deer goes it’s in BAD shape. CPW is sure doing a hell of a job of destroying the herd.

Yep deer getting hammered intentionally by cpw and in a few short years the elk will be getting hammered by wolves. I feel like most news these days for hunters is just bad news.

Hunted with my middle brother that I dont get to see much so great hunt regardless. Upper 60's opener and blue skies throughout hunt. Saw a really tall good forked pushing 24" 4x4 on opener and thought I'd see at least that everyday. I've never hunted junipers before so I think I handicapped myself too. Not ideal conditions and didnt see anything bigger. Shot a smaller 4x4 on Saturday late morning.
It's an interesting area, and really has some great potential. I'll definentely be keep an eye on how this hunt settles out for points though.
