Zippo across the board, except for:
Choice 1: Hunter Choice Number 1288 - Elk, Non-Resident, Any Legal Weapon, 114, 115, Antlerless December 05 - January 01
I had 4-points and my brother had 3-points. We got it as a 2-person party.
used to calc the NV odds, but haven't in sometime, but sat at the PC and geeked out today. Here's the odds for two NR units ALW based on 2023 apps and number of tags for 2024, and only factoring in 1st choice odds, too hard for a simple guy like me to calc the odds across all 5 choices... A low...
Any hunter who is easily discouraged usually eats tag soup.
I keep hoping folks will get discouraged and stop applying... as it is many of us will die with bonus points.
I have put in for what I perceive are the best units, many share that opinion and it makes it tougher to get a tag. As I...
Looks like many of us are in the same boat:
Points:
Deer - 11 (3-tags)
PH - 4 (5-tags)
Elk - 27
DBHS - 31
CBHS - 28
RBHS - 5
MG - 12
Good luck to all. Crossing my fingers this is my year for Sheep and Elk.
I’m just plan lucky to be alive and thankful I can hunt elk, regardless of not doing it in grizzly country. Almost bit it on a quad in CO this year, just plan lucky I didn’t get squashed.
I don’t need surviving in grizz country to appreciate life.?
As a NR bowhunter in an OTC unit, first time OTC and first time in the unit, I hunted draw units previously, I was amazed at the number of people going up and down the roads at all hours of the day. Boots on the ground 7-days and not one elk sighted personally, and very little fresh sign...
The spikes are not too far from cows. They normally trail a herd until chased off by the herd bull. Find cows and you’ll find a spike or two until peak rut.
Still pending, what? Why is this taking so long, ?
I think there’s little chance if a tag now, main hope was a sheep tag. NR with 29 points.
Too many points behind the crowd to expect a deer tag for the hunts I applied to.
My son got an X2 tag, which I am planning to help him with. My Bro and I got our fall back D3-5 tag. I might have to see what the PCT looks like in August with my Bow. The planning starts now.
Nice work, too bad you don't have the demographics of the max point hunters. My guess is that many of these max point holders will age and drop out at an accelerated rate going forward. I would take that bet anyway, but only time will tell. Thanks for tracking this.
BTW - my son drew with...
Yes, NV is increasingly a long shot for most NRs, even with 784 numbers the odds are I won’t get a desert sheep tag. Lol but better than most of all y’all. ?
Federal protections limit what the states can do. Takes a concerted effort to remove the feral horses and most folks don’t know a thing about how destructive they are to habitat.
Ok, maybe a tangent to this thread, I won the Matthews Phase4 at the local RMEF banquet and I’m thinking of gifting the coupon to my daughter. I shoot a bowtech Realm and am happy with it. Background - my daughter doesn’t shoot bows but expressed the desire to do so. I’m concerned that she...
Even with a guide it’s a tough hunt and you need a good guide not a schomski that can’t put it together pre rut and in hot weather.
The odds for the rifle NE hunt are too high. Not everyone will get a tag.
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity (except for a lucky few or a deep pocket to buy PLM tags). It would be nice if the CDFW would reflect that in the season dates for archery hunters.
Congratulations! Well done.
More guys need to buy a bear tag and bow hunt them. I saw 11 bears during my elk hunt. True three were sows with two cubs each, but two others were not with cubs. Seems they are everywhere. Size 13 bear track?
Update on my hunt. I came home after hunting 10 of 11 days. It was a difficult hunt with the hot weather. Another challenge was finding elk that were not talking. I heard of a hunter getting a really nice bull sitting a blind and I’m sure there are other successful bow hunters this season...
In addition, those getting good info may not respect how hard that information was to come by in the first place and spread it around and ruin the location. It is no surprise that once good areas get overrun with hunters, even though the hunt is limited.
Have you called the biologist who...
Changes they missed include not pushing the X5a muzzleloader hunt further into November. Now it starts 5-days after the end of the general season. Given all the points they should move it later to make it the same dates as the M3 hunt. In fact, M4,M5, M8 and M9 should be given the same dates as...
