Extend to ten days. It takes so much just to get there. I won’t go for under ten days. At least add a couple. I no longer take my rifles. Shoot a mtn zebra if you can. Hard to come by elsewhere.
Are you taking your own rifles? If so, have Gracy Travel or someone like them help with the permits.
Namibia is awesome!
Once you go, you will be addicted!
I will respectfully agree to disagree. There are a lot of great places in Zim to take a leopard and some amazing PH’s to hunt with. The outfitter I am talking is what I would consider reasonably priced for a leopard hunt in todays market, it’s not a discounted hunt.
There are some amazing outfitters who will be at the Expo and a couple that I would not recommend to my worst enemy! I could pass along a name or two of places where I would take my spouse. Gather the info, talk to some people, etc. You don’t have to book it there but at least meet the outfitter...
I found a place in Zim you might be interested in. My friend just booked a leopard hunt there. I am chatting about ele and some other stuff there. It is one of the most reasonably priced leopard hunts I have seen with a reputable outfitter. There is leopard, ele, buff, croc and hippo here as...
I am going to pass my current Swaro binocs onto my son.
I am looking at the Swarovski 12x42 Pure and 12x50 EL.
I see the Pure has a field of view at 1,000 yards of 339ft. The EL is 300ft.
It is hard in a store telling the difference other than the cost.
Thoughts on both appreciated.
HornyMan, who did you hunt with?
My first trip was to the cape as well. Amazing trip.
billc, who are you hunting with in SA and Moz on your upcoming trip?
I have hunted with Tholo and highly recommend. I have also hunted the neighboring property when it was available to hunt. It was totally amazing. I hunted in Namibia in the flat and in the mountains and it was amazing. I have hunted SA in the Eastern Cape and it is as green as it gets. Lots of...
happy to tell you what I know. I love that place. Been a few times and cannot wait to go back. Send me a PM with your number. I am happy to provide a few options.
The Novagrade is a no brainer. I have used it with three different phones. It is bulletproof. it is a little bulky but well worth it. Expensive until you realize you don’t have to buy another one when you change phones. I have the double gripper.
I have 9.5 foot walls and have two elk shoulder mounts. To the bottom of the jaw is 55” off the ground. It is not something to walk under. The form is a 15” right turn. It is a space eater for sure.
This was at Kanana Safaris. The area is no longer hunted commercially. I have also hunted next door at Tholo Safaris. They have a lot of Kudu and are excellent to hint with.
Been waiting since February. I will be surprised if I hear anything this year. they were happy to process the payment though. It was processed quickly and not a word since.
I still wonder what I was thinking when I look at these pics. I took pictures instead of pulling the trigger. I had shot some amazing Kudu this trip and elected to just watch and take pics. An amazing species I love to pursue.
In honor of the upcoming season and since it is snowing today.
I want one more lion and hopefully it will happen late this winter. It will be closed mouth. I have gone away from open mouth mounts. Personal preference.
Good luck this winter everyone.
Now that is funny. You just left out the part about “one year“ plus a few months. Paul is a great taxidermist. He highly encouraged me to get a replica of sheep horns and put them on the mount and keep the real horns as a euro. After chatting with him I will do that if I ever get a sheep.
I wait around two years which I am totally fine with. At this point it is all about quality. I have enough mounts that only a bad mount sticks out and I am happy I don't have any at this point. almost every new mount I want has a form modification so I am happy to pay for the extra time needed...
Moose mounts take up a ton of room. I know, I have three shoulder mounts and a euro in my trophy room. I don’t regret mounting any of them but they are space eaters.
While everyone is out having a great elk hunting season it made me think about a hunt where my dad took this 7x1. Would love to know the story of this bull. He had a huge body. Was definitely the king of his harem even with one horn. Good luck this fall and be safe.
I don’t see the seam on any of my mounts except for a couple of African mounts with little to no hair and they are hard to see the seam. Check out Dwayne Dewey and Paul Pennie. Paul has a connection where you can get a replica of your real horns for the shoulder mount and then keep the real...
Thanks to everyone who replied. I was surprised to see the results. I don’t recall receiving a mount in a year in a very long time and don’t expect it under a year. Good luck to all this fall.
don’t let distance be a factor. Go to the right place for the right mount. You will regret it if your decision is based off of location only; in most cases.
I appreciate everyone who responded. I am surprised the number of people who think an elk mount should cost under $1,000. I don’t see that happening with a really good taxidermist. I know I am picky. Thanks for the replies. Good luck this season.
I agree; don’t let distance be an obstacle for a once in a lifetime mount. Dakota, Dwayne Dewey, Paul Pennie, Precision Wildlife Artistry, Artistry of Wildlife are all great. And some others I have forgot to mention i am sure.
go with the tallest ceiling you can afford. You won’t regret it. My friend has 14ft walls and 16.5 at the peak. I really like it. Not to high but gives room to just keep adding stuff.
