I found its difficult to find animals in this unit on public because of all of the surrounding private.

I've hunted 79 a few times for elk, it would be the last area I choose for deer on public ground, unless you have private access. Or quality area that you've seen a bunch of deer in before. I've personally just seen a few does and a few small bucks on public ground.

Good luck to 3rd and 4th season Gunnison hunters. I ended up packing up camp after 5 days because of the snow. I just had a bull tag this year. There was a foot in the shaded timber when I showed up, then it snowed another five inches and it just kept snowing I was afraid I was going to have...

I've spent a few seasons in this unit hunting elk. Never did see many deer. I did find a few three pointers one day. I know of a group that hunts elk there each season and they usually get a two point or small buck every other season.
