Father/son success

Well been hunting with my dad the last few days. He has a LQ tag. All starts with a rebuilt rifle. My dads 7mm rem mag has been a pile of crap. Remington model 700. Basically the leupold scope was the issue and was a joy to throw it in the garbage. So a gunsmith did a new trigger, rebeded the stock a non leupold scope brand and new barrel. Last couple weeks been practicing in the wind, off the pack shots, and every scenario we can do and the gun can shoot. Nailing a tin can at 700 yards is no issue.

Each day watched 40 some does and one 2x2 buck from a high point. All groups were 3 to 7 does. I couldn't take it anymore. I decided to branch off and glass another drainage. Spotted a decent buck. Ran back to get my dad and we hiked up the ridge and got 160 yards. We were a huffing and a puffin so we had to calm ourselves. Watched the buck tear up some brush and my dad dropped him.

Next week off to montana for a morning deer hunt and back home to maybe use my general tag. Plus the kid has a few doe tags to fill and his elk tag.

Way to go! That’s a good buck and I’m sure you guys had a blast.

What brand scope did you guys go with?

Well he really liked my vortex pst gen 2 so he went with that and was locally in stock. He was going to get a nightforce but trying to get that quick was a issue. He will get a nightforce but really wants to look through one first. I guess with older age your eyes get weird and what looks good to us doesn't to him.
He does like my burris eliminator but man it's like packing a 20 pound weight around.

been keeping a close eye on some whiteys last few years. Hunting has been rough. Wrong crops in the cycle, high hunting pressure, failed bowhunting attempts. But last 3 years i kept close tabs on a handful of bucks

Finally made things happen. Some other hunters were making last night rough. Standing in the open and talking. They decided to walk the corn feild. I knew exactly where the deer would escape. Gathered my things to go sit and wait. After some deer came running out this guy appeared. 60 yard shot. He is the 6th biggest whitey out of the 17 I been keeping an eye on.

I couldn't drag the deer well since it was on the heavy side. Called my dad and he came and helped. I didn't want to quarter/ or leave guts since the farmer is cutting the corn in a couple of days and wanted to be respectful.
@DoubleDropMuley gets a high five. I texted him before the guys took off into the corn field expressing how the night was going to hell. Cause I was watching a nice buck but he could hear the 2 hunters

Also a pic of him in velvet
