2024 San Juan late Elk

Got a San Juan late elk tag due to someone turning there’s in. Any tips or tricks on where to look. Won’t have time to do much scouting till the hunt so hoping for the best!! Any help is appreciated.

Good luck to you.
Do you have any experience down there? This weather rolling in will either help you or cause issues with traveling the roads. Hard to say what conditions that unit will see by the time your Hunt starts. My advice is be ready for the unexpected and glass and move until you find the bull you would want to hunt and hopefully tag.

Was down there this last week deer hunting and saw some dandy bulls. They were still plenty high where we saw them and the big storm a week ago didn’t seem to move them much. That could change with another big storm as mentioned. This guy was a huge 6x5 with a massive whale tail and beams for days!!

My buddies wife was contacted last week about being next in line for this tag but they had to decline with the short notice. Congrats. Still some good bulls to be had out there.

Maybe we will see you down there. My father in law has the tag. But it's a huge unit so chances are slim.

Scandalousbob Iwouldn't mind a PM from those who have been down there recently. Its a big unit, so narrowing down where to look would definitely help. Any help would be appreciated. He doesn't care on elk size, but hopefully we can find a nice 6 point.

My friend had the tag last year and came home with a tag. He said it was a tough hunt and had a hard time finding bulls. It is nothing like the early hunt from what his story was.

Are you willing to share any information on where you have seen elk recently? I will be down there the 8 th to the 17 th. Thank you.
