Be cool when fall gets here huh? Only the 19t of October for crying out loud!

Ive only been coyote hunting so far, just doesn’t feel like deer season. What are you guys seeing up there? Pretty slow?

Went over to eastern Idaho. 50's for low, and 80 degrees every day. Dust was so thick, you left little puffs just walking on the trails. 6 days, never saw an elk and only one bugle. Never saw a whitetail and only 3 mule deer does. It was the worst I have seen in decades!!!

Took the 11 year-old out in one of the southern zones for deer. It was crazy hot but we managed to find a few deer and get him his second buck. Once again, I'll gladly eat my tag for the opportunity Idaho gives him to hunt 2 years earlier than any other western state. This year I saw the least amount of pressure I've ever seen hunting Idaho. I think a lot of people are sitting home waiting for fall to show up.-----SS

Radar from yesterday,, Northern AZ,, looks like a snow hurricane at Flagstaff.

Was up for the first 5 days. Heard one shot on opening day. Been pretty slow. Talked with the Idaho Biologist, and mentioned that the deer heard is really suffering. He stated that it is because of 16/17 winter and the 22/23 winter was hard on the deer herd as well. He also said that they have too many elk, and it is driving mule deer numbers down, as they compete for food in the winter range. Obviously the elk are bigger and will win that competition every time.
I had always thought that there has been a correlation between increased elk herds and decreased deer numbers in Utah and Idaho, but never had a Biologist that would admit to it. I remember in the 80's that there were mule deer everywhere, despite hard winters. Northern Utah/So. Idaho didn't have many elk back then. Times have changed.

Bummer it wrecks folks hard earned hunt time but them critter deserve a good year or 10.
We agree on something!!! I’m going out for the last week but I’m not banking on killing anything. Last two years ive done my part. Passed on every buck I’ve seen. Going to have to be real special for me to pull the trigger on a mule deer anytime soon. Might just be a whitetail hunter for a few years after this one

As i was driving home today from Fairfield at 11:30 , i witnessed the beginning of the migration from 43 to unit 45. I had to stop about 4 miles from the Pine exit to let about 20-25 deer cross into unit 45, on the back end was 4 small 4-points. I always thought they crossed in the night, but it was pretty cool!

Seems odd without any snow. They do move in a hurry when it’s time to go.

First year I ever hunted 43 had a handful of real solid bucks on camera. An old timer had told us all the deer had already migrated out, we thought it was tongue in cheek (still elk everywhere) and that he also knew about the bucks in the area. Took us three days (im a slow learner) to finally believe him. lol

Yeah there wasn’t a lot in there this week. I hiked out yesterday after seeing much of the same. Went up to 33 this morning and killed a buck. Sure was pretty up high though
