Dawn was successful on her once in a lifetime moose hunt Wednesday afternoon with a 40 1/2 inch wide bull. We had a great time on the mountain making memories with a great friend, Robert. We seen a total of 46 moose, with 9 being bulls (1 was an albino).

After 4 days Robert had to go home. The following afternoon Dawn had her bull at about 150 yards and hit him a couple times. We thought he layed down just up the hill out of sight, but we only had about 30 minutes of light left to find him. I hurried the process and ended up jumping him once at about 15 yards and had to yell to Dawn to come up the road with the rifle. Once she met me we went to the last sighting spot and there below us he was standing in a large pond. We tried to scare him out of the pond by yelling, throwing rocks in the water, but after swimming in the middle of the pond for a couple minutes he expired. I was afraid he was going to sink so I I sprinted down the road to the side by side and flew back to the pond and stripped down to my pants and boots. I grabbed some mule tape and waded out into the pond until I was up to my armpits. After several attempts I finally lariated one of his antler palms and dragged him to shore, where we winched him out with the side by side.

Knowing we had a long night in front of us we headed back to camp and dried off, changed into dry clothes and packed my pack with knives, blades, lights, batteries, drinks and some snacks.

We made it back to the moose at 9PM and took a few photos and started the task of breaking him down.0 Dawn was a trooper and between the two of us we caped, quartered and had all the meat bagged and loaded in 2 hours and 15 minutes. We made it back to camp and hung the quarters, laid out the cape to cool, grabbed a quik snack and hit the sleeping bags about 1AM.

Awesome time on the mountain making great memories. Beautiful scenery and lots of animals seen (moose, elk, deer, birds, a porcupine and dozens of grouse). Doesn't get much better then this trip spending time in gods country.

The Best Moose Meat I Ever Ate Was A Cow That Landed In The River After Being Shot!

Cooled Out Quick & Damn That Was Tasty!

I'm Not Into Shooting Anything Female But My Friend That Shot This Cow Moose Said The Same Thing:

The Tastiest Meat He'd Ever Ate!

Hopefully The Pond Bull Will Be Tasty As well!

Get your wall tent all figured out and the way you like it. How was your hunts this fall in the tent Tikka.
Yes, I did, I'll send you some pics...

On another note, similar to Dawns moose... My brother and I hunted Alaska in the early 90's... My brother killed a moose in the pond and had to get wet also...

That moose, however, was the nastiest tasting moose ever, we had to quarter him while in the pond...

I've heard several stories of this. Just didn't think it would be me. Pretty stressful until I got a rope/mule tape on him. Was worried it might sink. Just top of back and top of palms were above water. I really didn't want to go diving for him.

Mine wasn't to bad after getting the line on him. Pulled him to shore and winched him out. Quartering him in the water would be a whole other situation.
