Lookout Mountain

Is there anyone on here with experience or knows lookout mountain well? My dad and I drew a second choice cow tag and I have a couple questions.

I think I know where I want to hunt but my questions are specifically about an area I'm looking to access.

I'd prefer pm's instead of putting this out on the web.

Thanks

I was up there this week bird hunting , the fires have devastated it.

Most of the BLM down towards Richland is toast, a lot of the cow hunting was done there and that's not an option this year. there was another fire closer to Baker that took out more ground.

As you probably know most of the unit is private land, so the area open to the public was always limited. I've never hunted elk there so I can't help you much, just look at the fire map and see what's open to you and where its's not torched.

Yeah, our plan was to hunt a couple areas on that north end but the coyote fire erased that idea.

Have you ever been up the Connor creek road? Is it open all the way up to the top?

I haven't been up it for a few years but it was. I don't believe anything there burned. you're likely to have a lot of chukar hunters in there it's a well-known good spot.

It's pretty open country it won't take much to boo them out.

I think it's open. There was a big lawsuit a couple years ago between the county and some landowners and it was opened. If I make it to town tomorrow I'll ask around.
The Coyote fire was stopped at Moonshine Mine. From there all the way to Huntington didn't burn.
The bird hunters will scatter them. I'm glad I filled my tag before they showed up.

Thank you!
Do you know if the fire burned the area around powder point bad enough that it isn't even worth checking out?

Did you have a cow tag this year?

There may be a few pockets of vegetation in the bottoms of draws but its 99% black. I'll be out on the reservoir later this week and check it out again.
I had the cow damage tag.

I was on Powder Point this week, it is GONE. there's about 500 acres left down by the parking lot but there were no elk and there won't be.

Daily Creek is gone, and the BLM next to it as well.

Basically, everything from Powder point to Swede's Landing is toast.
