Vernon Landowner Deer Tags

I’ve been told there’s a handful of landowner deer tags given out for the Vernon every year that in turn get sold. I’m interested in looking into those tags. Does anyone know anyone or have any details they could share? Thanks in advance!

Are you interested in a landowner permit this year?

All reasonable offers will be considered - but looking for $10k. They have been going for $11k-$12k.
Really? Like $3-$5k tops. Maybe 10k+ for a guided hunt hit me up. I work for a landowner and have found some really good deer in the past. That being said it isn’t what it once was. There are still a few big ones around tho.

If you have access to 3-5k LO tags on the Vernon I’ll buy 2 right now. lol . 10k is a good deal on those tags right now, actually a really good deal. Unguided.

That would have to include a good used 4x4 for it to be a good deal for me😂
If you can let me know where you can find a good used 4x4 for 10K without a deer tag I'd love to know more about that too!!!

10K for a LE unit tag now days is unfortunately a really good deal when you look at the cost on the Pauns or Oak Creek or Henrys tags that are available for purchase. You could also throw in CO or NM LO tags or Sonora....Big mule deer are expensive these days,

$10,000 for a Vernon tag is ridiculous, it may be a L.E. unit but as far as limited entry units go the Vernon is sucking hind teat. If you think that’s a good deal and if you can’t find a good, used reliable 4x4 for ten grand then you are either really bad with money, incompetent or both.

Hey Bob!

The vehicle they un-hook off of their 100K+ Truck will cost way more than 10K!:D

I guess if you say so. I am sure you have lots more insight on that unit and the current cost for mule deer hunts and tags across the country than I do.

I am also in the market for a 10K reliable 4 wheel drive truck, If you could shoot me some links I would appreciate it.

Yes I do say so and I will agree to agree with you that I have lots more insight on the current cost for mule deer hunts and tags across the country. I will point out that you won't find mule deer hunts and tags across the country, mostly just the western states. I only mention this as proof that I do indeed have more insight than you :ROFLMAO: As for the Vernon you probably do have more insight on that unit than I do because I don't waste my time on that scrubby hind teat sucking L.E. unit. Honestly there is no reason for me to go there when I have better deer not only across the street but in my front yard as well.

Sure there are idiots who pay unreasonable sums of money for deer tags, mostly due to the marketing of greedy, profit-first, hunting whores which in turn garners the attention and headlines of said tag purchases. What you don't hear about are the hunts of equal or better quality that can be had for much less money. The reason you don't hear about those is because the folks that find good/great hunts for reasonable prices aren't about to broadcast it and you won't find those hunts/tags at your local banquets or auctions.

Just as there are idiots who overpay for hunting tags there are even more idiots overpaying for trucks and cars these days. I do a bit of car/truck buying, flipping and horse trading and I've dabbled at it for over thirty years. If you have much knowledge of vehicles and mechanics then you know there are quite a few older models on the road which are more dependable than the crap being pushed out the dealership door these days for high five and even six digit prices. Those older truck models will still be on the road long after all this new crap has been turned into pepsi cans. Granted those reliable 4x4 trucks aren't new and they surely won't have all the flashy options like butt-warmers and douche bottle cleaners that most of the new ones offer. You don't want that crap on a real truck anyway. Those seat massagers and other fluff is part of what has turned folks into snowflakes these days.

The prices of older reliable four wheel drive trucks have been inflating a lot now that people are waking up to the fact that paying $60-$100k for a truck doesn't guarantee quality or reliability and there are folks switching back to older clean trucks with reasonable miles that don't come with $1,000+ monthly payments. You have to spend time searching but there are still good, reliable trucks out there to be had even in your $10,000 price range.

Will I send you links to any of those reliable sub 10k trucks, absolutely not. There is already more than enough competition from other flippers looking for those bargains. I do currently have a reliable Bullnose 1985 (might be a little to old school for you) F-350 4x4 diesel that I will be listing shortly after I paint it. It's a two tone grey/black Lariat 4 speed with a flat bed. It has all new doors, hood, fenders, nice black aluminum wheels, red interior and 35" tires. Recently upgraded to a 3g alternator and electric fuel pump. I was going to add a turbo and zf-5 tranny and just keep it for a wood hauler. At this point I plan to list it for $12,000 when the paint dries. I might drop the price to $10,000 just for you if you'll throw in a Vernon tag for my son. I've got a lifetime license so I've no interest in the tag for myself.

Basically my point is/was (if not made clearly) not all people see the same value or are willing to pay the same prices for what can be had for less. Case in point go check out the ridiculous prices people in Texas and other parts of the country are willing to pay for 20-30 year old clean Ford and Chevy diesel 4x4 trucks. Trucks that you can still find and buy for ten thousand or less if you spend the time searching.

Dead,
Thanks for extensive explanation of your views.
Market value without question can be dictated by personal belief or view . Currently 10k for the caliber of bucks you’d be chasing on Vernon would be a better value than buying an Oak Creek tag for 100k…but that’s my view. Overall within the selling and buying of mule deer tags, 10k is a “pretty good deal” As far as the 4x4 sounds like a great truck …I think I’ll pass on pounding a F350 flatbed around the hills.

When did an Oak Creek tag sell for $100k? The most I recall was $90 and that was a couple years ago. I believe they were around 70 this year. I live in Oak City and love to watch and photograph the deer, especially in a couple weeks from now when they start getting frisky but if I’m paying six figures for a hunt it is going to be towards a big five safari in Africa or at least lion and big elephant.

I believe they had one or two that jumped to the 100k last year, but I may be mistaken. They did drop some this year due to the economy and the fact that 2023 was a down year for Oak Creek.

The Oak Creek is hard to beat for easy viewing rutting bucks that are actually mature.

If Im dropping 100k its probably gonna be on an Argali Ram. But for some its a mule deer. Enough people apparently to drive the price up on most mule deer tags.

I personally don't spend 10k on Vernon tags, I would probably drop 5k (cause thats my personal budget) on one but thats not what they sell for these days. I have friends that usually buy a tag and when compared to the cost of Pauns, Oak Creek, Henries, Sonora, Alberta, Top CO LO units, NM private land tags, 10K is a good buy for the quality of bucks they are shooting.
