I don’t know of Kirwin. My guess is mining equipment. Possibly a crushing machine. That is big wheel.

Looks like the flywheel for a big single cylinder steam engine, perhaps used in a saw mill.

Amelia Earhart was even up there and to have a cabin built but didn't get finished for obvious reasons

Mostly a bust from what I have read.

It's a nice drive though. Lot of the buildings are still in place. Mine shafts have been blown in. Lot of pyrite around

It is a high volume air compressor use to send fresh air deep into a mine. Also used for air drilling of water or oil wells. The air would bring the bit cuttings to the surface.

The big wheel is a “bull wheel” that used a canvas or rubber belt to connect to a power source.

The size of the belt pulley on the power source would determine the volume of air put out by the compressor.
