I’m not hunting General Deer this year, couldn’t get a second tag for it and I am hunting Whitetails up north in Nov, but would love to hear some stories. Historically, I usually had snow within a few days of the 10/1 opener in 39/43 and that isn’t the case this year so I imagine it’s been rough. I’ll be getting my bird dogs in shape this month but please post up.

I think it will a pretty rough gen season this year. Bucks will be harvested of course but this ain’t great deer hunting weather on top of a struggling herd. I’m gunna take the last week off and get as high as the area I’m hunting will let me. See if that strategy works. Always late archery…

Hot and dry, but we have had a good opener. It was looking dismal after a few days of scouting but I got very lucky and found a decent buck on Tuesday. Had him killed 15 minutes into shoot time on opener and he was a better deer than I thought. This morning I helped my geriatric onset hunter buddy. Joined the masses near a big road system but hiked for 15 minutes instead of road hunting and he killed his personal best deer. Even the small bucks have been headed into timber or brush before the sun is up. Hopefully you locals have some better weather the last week.

Spent all day yesterday watching a cool looking tall, narrow 3x3 bedded. Got my wife all set up on bipod, rear bag, steady as a rock at 300yds. As she was steadying breath for the shot another group of 3 hunters below us fired 3 shots at a group of small like 1.5yo bucks (missed) and boogered our guy into the wilds never to be seen again. That's the way it goes sometimes.
