Surprising elk sighting

Interesting. Didn't an elk cause a fatal accident by running across the I25 by T or C recently too? I would be tripped out if I saw one in either of those places.

They show up in a lot of unexpected places. We saw these raghorns while antelope hunting between Abbott and Gladstone a few years back.

I've seen them down by Dell City. My first thought was they had to be tules, but as time passes, I'm more inclined to think they were rocky mountains. Those things seem to be able to go anywhere.

They prefer to be prairie critters. Only hide in the mountains to get away from people. They hang in the bottom of the Caldera all day if they're not pestered.

Last Tuesday while traveling from my sons’s youth deer hunt we saw a small herd of elk right of the highway in the headlights. One nice 5x5, a spike and about 6 cows.

They were 12 miles North of the City of Rocks on that highway to Mimbres. Did not expect that.
Yes we’ve seen some randomly in that area at night too.
