It's started.

Trying to get my second oldest boy his first animal this spring with a bear.

Female bear quota is filling fast! Spring bear might be a bust. UPDATE: the area we were baiting is closed! Might try a different area.

My wife and I and our 2 boys have applied for 17 fall Wyoming tags. Count down to Christmas morning is on when we find out what we draw. Should be a busy fall.

Picture of last years cow elk my oldest boy shot.

Summer flew by. Boys shot the crossbow a bunch. I knew having 2 youth hunters this fall they would take priority. Yesterday and today we spot n stalk antelope in this heat. We saw 100s of antelope and passed on ones with babies or in tough spots to stalk. My second oldest boy earned his first harvest in hot weather and spot n stalk archery. 51 yards.

Took a break from chasing elk. Rifle antelope started today. My youngest boy (6) has been begging me to take him hunting. I promised I would take him for antelope. We had this guy marked a month ago during archery and he was right there this morning with a few does. A big loop and my second oldest boy got set up for a 150 yard shot. Dumped him. Kids were back in school by 11am and not happy about it. Haha.

Went out this AM and PM looking for a buck that my boy could shoot tomorrow on his general deer tag. I found a few options. No pictures though. Hopefully tomorrow we play our cards right with the pumpkin patch and get one to stand still.

Early beautiful morning to get into the spot before anyone else. We saw 22 does and couldn't put antlers on any of them. Had a guy come 300 yards next to us. He walked back over the hill the way he came and 3 min later we heard a shot. saw him at the game and fish station with a decent 4x4. We will try again tonight.

wyHOMEing is making my boys tougher 1 gate at a time.

Had a great hunt tonight without pulling the trigger. Found some deer and 2 young bucks for my boy in a little valley. Stalked into 258 yards across from them... checked onx and private boundary was 248 yards away. One little square of private in the middle of BLM and it held the deer. We watched for 20 min waiting for the bigger buck to feed down 20 yards to us. Doe spotted my boy fidgeting a little up on the hill and she bumped into the buck and took him up the valley into private.

We rounded over the ridge to check the other side and right away I spot a deer.
Spotted him at 600 and with naked eye you could see tall heavy antlers. Getting dark quick and we sprinted down and up a very steep ravine. Popped out at 201 yards and for 5 min that buck didn't move. Facing dead away from us. My boy was on him until he said "dad i can't see the cross hairs anymore" I said "the gig is up". We backed out slowly in the dark and hopefully didn't bump him. I was proud of my boy for getting on him quickly then being very patient waiting for a turn that didn't happen. I made a few sounds to get him to turn but he never committed himself to a better shot angle. Bitter sweet. Can't hunt until Saturday morning and cold front coming and weekend warriors out it could be a zoo.

This morning I tried to wake him up at 530am and he was whipped. Wouldn't budge. Ended up getting him up about 7. We hit the first spot and see a whitetail doe (legal where we are) and he said he would rather keep hunting to find a buck. Pull into the second piece and spot a buck bedded. Only see his ears and antlers. Hop out of truck. Get our packs etc and start sneaking. Mateo stops me and says "dad we didn't pray this morning. Better now" he said a sincere prayer about safety and quickly harvesting the buck.

We sneak into 92 yards. Get set up but a bush is blocking the deer body. Move 6' to the left. No shot. Come back to right. I told Mateo get on the tripod he is gonna stand up....3 seconds later he stands up. "Dump him" I said in my boys ears covered in earmuffs.

Bang. Flop. The 6.5 prc 143 eldm dropped him. My boy is excited!
Quarter him. Say a prayer of thanks before getting home at 11am with meat dry aging at 36 degrees.

My youngest girl thought it was cool.
