Idaho Unit 44

I was one of the luck NRs to draw a deer tag in Idaho unit 44 this year. I am very excited for the hunt to say the least. I would love to connect with anybody who has hunted the unit in the past for advice. I would also like to connect with others who drew the tag this year as I would be happy to share what I see as this isn't an area you can hunt year after year... I will likely hunt the first and last weeks.

Hi Aedude006

Congrats on a great tag. I applied there myself.
Here’s what’s going on. Year after year the regulars on these types of sites see brand new guys jump on here and start asking for help for a tag they just got. These people rarely ever stick around to contribute to the MM community after getting what they want. They don’t give an update or help anyone else out. So every one has become so jaded on helping new guys that’s it’s almost an unwritten rule you don’t.

My advice is stick around a few months, tell us about yourself, post some stories, pictures help others out and then try again say September 1 and maybe you will get a different result.

Good luck.

Ya, I'm not looking for anyone's honey hole, though I wouldn't be opposed to the information... I'll be happy to post how the hunt goes regardless of my tag getting punched. I was surprised to see there was no forum introduction area. I will post something in the general hunting section. I'll then learn what I can from scouring the forum and web and loop back here for unit 44 specific questions. In the mean-time if anybody else drew this tag this year send me a message. I'd be happy to share information with what I'm seeing while I'm out there!

Hunt early. Hunt high. Also low. This is a hunt where weather is likely not your friend. Significant weather anyway.

I drew unit 44. My email is [email protected]. Would love to talk to you. I have not hunted it before.
Thks

Right now, weather is not a concern for foreseeable future.

Friend had archery and it seems this isn’t the best yr to have this tag. That said it’s better than most units, just a statement of mule deer hunting today, steady decline.

Everyone in 44 is seeing Bucks, ther were some very nice archery Bucks taken. Horn growth is very good from the early Forbes on the Deserts. There are not a lot of older age class Deer but I’m sure there will be a couple of smokers taken. If you are not planning on hunting until the end of the season, you should not worry, show up in Willow Creek with your game face on and plan on Combat hunting with the other 150 tag holders , Elk Hunters and the new Outfitter. Someone’s got to get lucky, it could be you

Thanks for the info. My sun and I are hunting the week of Oct 20. Hoping for some weather. I want to find out what it takes to get access on farm land. Hoping to put a blind up. /
Also tiring the 4x4 atv.
Where are you hunting and when?
You better forget the blind and get serious about covering some country and finding buck,

You’re probably correct. I’m hoping to not be in that bunch. Would like to find a farmer that will provides access that I can pay. Hoping my son can tag out.

I spent 3 days before the season opened and filled tag on 2nd day! Saw a lot of nice smaller bucks… small 4x4, 1 nice 3x3 and handfuls of 3x2 and forks! Found a toad and ended up putting my tag on him.

Any luck? I was there myself a few days before the opener and have since filled my tag.
