Let’s see em!

Passed 2 small bulls on Sunday, 4x5 withing 10 minutes of shooting light and then a small 5x5 at the end of the day. Had a small 6x6 yesterday am at but its early and all the bigs we have seen are still alone ...Work for 3 days and headed back...Great pics and video tho...

sounds like Rio’s in for a treat ! I’ll be expecting pics my friend! Pablo you can buy me lunch just for funz haha! I’m sure I’ll be seeing urs as well 💪🏾

Still getting my butt kicked. So close yet so far, bulls were screaming good this weekend, got in tight just not tight enough and no good shooting lanes. Heading back Tuesday night until Saturday, ready to shoot a dam cow at this point. Should have shot one this weekend but hard to shoot a cow when a bull is 30 yards behind screaming and glunking.

Yes ! Pablo said he’ll meet you at Ruth Chris steak house in Albuquerque at your earliest convenience 🤣🤣
Someone else will have to take my invite. I’m Montana bound to chase elk and deer!

New Mexico was a ball as always. Now I have to go introduce more animals to my Hoyt!

Iccy, congratulations. A few details when u get a chance,🤔!
I had one of those trips elk hunters dream of.
The first part of my trip I was holding a very high standard for myself. I got into some great elk action, great encounters, and passed a lot of smaller elk while trying to put down some of the mature ones I was finding.
I was very fortunate to get into some great action nearly every day.

Day 8’s evening was a reset because I had already been on the mountain for 10 days. So shower, hotel room, laundry, and big ass burrito. So day 9 is when the different mindset shifted because I had to get back for soccer games and prep for my Montana hunts. So day 9 while I was talking with a bull and getting in closer on him, this guy made the mistake of making a weaker bugle in between me and the other bull. After a quick set up, a weak bulge behind my body, and some mews, this guy came in on a string.
40 yard broadside shot, a few mews, and him going 25 yards = dead!
Talk about happy as can be. Freezer is off to an amazing start, I made it home to coach my 7 year old daughters practice, I’ll coach her game Saturday and then leave for Montana for 2 weeks.

Life is good.

Iccy, cool story and thanks for posting. Always up for a goood read!

Perez, congratulations to you too. You’re up to bat for another good story?
Thank you sir, oh I’m not much of a story teller. First half of the hunt I was in the wilderness living out of my pack having a blast just going where the elk end up. Got wet a few times, ruined a pair of brand new boots (don’t buy salewa), got really frustrated and annoyed that first week, I had lot of encounters but couldn’t close the deal, seems like the cows were always in the way of the bulls I was chasing. Anyways I went home for a few days for work and family time, I went back up Tuesday after work and hunted an area I hunted a few days before. Left the truck around 4 pm, finally found some elk around 6:30-6:45 bulls started to bugle a bit. Two bulls in the group with some cows and calves, did a loop around the cows to get to the bulls in the back and my bull fed right above me at 52 yards. He gave me time to range him, dial my floater to exact yardage, draw back and let him have it. Shot was a little far back was my first though, elevation was good. Blood gushing right away, he ran like a bat out of hell for 200 yards and then bed down immediately, I closed the distance on him to 100 yards watching him in his bed, I maybe could have snuck in and got another arrow in him but I felt confident with the shot and the blood coming out I figured he would expire. So I just watched him till dark, he was coughing, head bobbing, he even rolled on his side a few times but he was still alive all the way till dark and I really didn’t wanna bump him and give him an adrenaline spike so I decided to back out and leave him over night. Came back at 6:30 in the morning with my sister and friend and he was dead in his bed, had him cut up and back in the truck by 9:30. My buddy even called in a bull to us as we were cutting mine up, we had a blast yesterday. Sad it’s over but happy to be home with the family and happy to harvest a bull.

Sweet bulls and hell of a buck fellas! First couple of weeks of September is historically quiet in MM land, glad to see the successes. In my opinion, the NM forum is by far the best one here on MM. Some cool dudes for sure.
