2020 Ram on the wall

Picked up my 2020 Bighorn Ram mount yesterday from my taxidermist and put him on the wall today. Boy did it come out nice. Had to remove another mount to make room. Need to find a spot for it now. I drug my feet getting it mounted because at first I was not sure what I was going to do. Then in 2021 I drew a Mtn Goat tag. Had it mounted first. Was not concerned about the ram because I had the skull on my garage freezer and enjoyed looking at it and picking it up and feeling the weight.

Finally decided to do an euro and have replica horns made for the mount and a frame pack display. Had to save up for those.

This year I beat all the odds and drew 2 sheep tags. A Utah Rocky and a Nevada Nelson Desert tags. This post will take me quite a while to complete, but I will try and finish it with in a week. Both hunts were DIY with by hunting partner Kevin, daughter Karen , and son in law Cody coming along...

Congratulations and looks so good! Who did the replica? looks like they did a great job and it’s tough to find a good one that can do replicas well. Who is the taxidermist?

Cost $1600 for the mold and $450 for each reproduction. They keep the mold and you can have more done later if you want. He does a lot of work for Cabela’s and others.

Westco Enterprise in Sacramento did the reproductions. When I went there he was doing molds for some large elephant tusks. I never realized how heavy those large ivories actually were. Forrest Farnsworth ( International Big Game ) in Sebastopol did the taxidermy.

I would love to see more pics of the repo and mount to compare them. It’s so difficult to find a good repo guy that can get the colors right and the guy I used for my dall is no longer doing sheep but was great at matching the colors.

Awesome looking mount and euro. The annuli rings are very distinct/pronounced on your ram. Very cool!

I agree, looks good and I like the real horns to handle and repro horns on the wall concept.

Maybe the pics are fooling me but it looks like the repro company made a mistake. The right horn annuli looks like a horn from a ram that is a year older than the left horn. ??

Good eye. Never noticed that, just excited to get the horns and have it mounted.

Need to get that fixed. Horns also came out a lot darker, but I was fine with that.

Nice! I like the repro idea as well.

I had that done on a mtn goat a few years ago and am likely going to do it again on my sons goat from this year.

There are quite a few taxidermy reference videos available on making repros. Fish repros are made in a fairly similar fashion.

I generally use the real horns on the mounts and repros on the skulls. Pretty much the other way around the way you had it done. It’s a matter of finding a skull plate that fits the original horns on the mount.
