Condor poached

This is the first ive heard of this, and i live in the area...
I’m with ya. Pretty close to me. I would like to see one of the big guys someday. These rednecks will shoot anything.

It’s getting pretty strange around here. We had the guy a couple weeks ago packed off for threatening politicians, and we had the funeral for the Korean War veteran who’s remains were returned.

And the story about the muzzy hunter murdering the archer hit the most viewed again after a couple years. ???

I should probably start using lead free ammo when im prarie doggin. I didnt realize they came over here.
Im with you Blue, wish i could have seen it.

Last spring I was driving up 89 just past Mt Carmel Jct and I could see a very large bird flying over the top of me so I pulled over. I don't know if it was a condor for sure but the bird that was circling above me about a 200 feet up was the largest bird I have ever saw.

I've seen one in Zion Park

Once upon a time, a farmer needed a rooster to service his chickens, so he went over to his neighbors place to see if he had one he could buy.
The neighbor said I have the perfect rooster his name is Chester, and he serviced all my chickens but I don't need him anymore.
So the farmer took Chester home, it did not take Chester long to service all the chickens, and then he serviced the ducks all before noon and shortly after he was after the sheep and the cows.
The farmer told Chester you need to slow down or else you are going to screw yourself to death.
The farmer went in the house to have some lunch and when he looked out the window he could see old Chester flat on his back dead, shore enough old Chester had screwed himself to death.
The farmer went out into the farmyard and said
"Chester I told you to slow down that you was going to screw yourself to death".
As the farmer approached Chester, Chester looked at the farmer and said "Quiet Vultures".
I know you have all heard it, I will show myself to the door.

I have seen one in the wild....they are enormous birds.

Dad and I were hunting and saw one flying. As were watching it fly away, it disappeared behind a nearby ridge. We both turned to eachother as if the other was thinking the same thing......how was he so close to the top of the ridge. We thought he was much closer to us than the ridge. Crazy big birds!

It was bad enough our liberals moving to Colorado, now you got the Condor. Get ready for your liberal Colorado politicians to ban lead bullets "In order to protect the gut pile eating Condors".
We have many here believing that the lead bullet ban was a farce and did nothing to protect the Condor.

So you’re saying the lead bullet ban worked?

I have about 20 vultures living in my trees. It’s not that cool. Kinda creepy when they take off in the evening and start soaring. They spiral up like the bats coming out of Carlsbad.

Hopefully all the Cabin eating Condors leave Utah and head to Colorado! Those birds can really tear off a tin roof in a hurry!!😀

I threw a halibut carcass in my back yard last summer. Within two hours there was 5 or 6 vultures fighting over it. I have a trail camera photo of it. I'll see if I can find it.

Some would construe that as baiting, eel.

No I am not saying that. One bird that was raised in captivity also had a high level of lead in it's body. That was hushed up very fast after a whistle blower working on the project let that information out.
Think about it, how many gut piles have a lead bullet in them. The vast majority of shots at a game animal involves a complete pass though and no bullet in the gut pile. Lead can be found on the ground surface of many areas and can be picked up by the birds. Don't most birds pick up gravel for their gizzard to help in digesting food?

The only place you can kill a California Condor is in a windmill. The more the better because they pay a "fee" for each one killed.

Ok, but the fact remains that after the lead bullet ban their population has expanded and apparently their range as well. Wild.

I don’t know what condors need in their gizzard, but they don’t spend as much time wandering around on roads as grouse and pheasants do.

Lead poisoning in humans is a big deal I think. I know when we worked around high lead concentrations we had to implement a pretty stringent medical surveillance program. When we demolished the lead smelter in Bartlesville OK it was full-on hazmat.

Which makes me wonder about the number of shot I’ve chewed on and the paint I’ve sniffed over the years. I don’t think I’m any crazier than you so I suppose I’m ok. I’m a lead bullet guy and will be till the day I die.

I've never seen a California Condor, but my heart soars every time I see a Turkey Vulture on a roadkill. I can't imagine a world without them.
Turkey vulture on a roadkill here in Wyoming doesn't do much soaring..especially after being run over by a Semi...
