Land owner tag

LO tags are awarded after discussion/review of property and many variables which factor into a “final assessment rating”.
For starters, contact Aaron Roberts with NM G and F Landowner Signup System (LOSS) @ 888-248-6866!
He is a great individual and always ready to help. If you don’t get him right away, leave a message and I guarantee he will call you back.
Good luck.

So much to that....we had one over 330 acres not make the cut this year, but I have some smaller in the program.

The habitat each property provides is key, generally with year round water as the key.

There’s not a minimum but not too many properties under ~10 acres qualify, but There is a few. Their rating system is pretty stupid. They rate the amount of grass, cover and water on a property. A 20 acre property can rate the same as a 100 acre property if the ratios are the same, dispite the fact a 100 acre property will have 5 X the amount of a 20 acre property.

I think the system generally makes sense and no system is perfect. Probably a few in there that could still come out but in the units I hunt, most of the unit wide EPLUS ground is solid stuff....and people overlook it. It's really hard to get small properties qualified anymore...I'm constantly looking and can not find anything very small that would easily make it. When the 330 we entered last year didn't...you really gotta think about it. We will get it in the system, but not before we install about a $60k water well with solar system.

My friend owns an off grid place with water catchment as their only source of water so I was curious if they could get a landowner tag due to they graze goats and sheep. Thanks for the help all

Is it in the primary or secondary zone?

Do they have good grass, cover? Does it have elk already? How often is the water catchment dry?

This is all stuff scored in the system, if in the primary zone

Gave him the number to call and they’ll figure it out. Interestingly he doesn’t live in a zone that has elk hunting.

They wont like sheep fencing. It separates the calves and fawns from their mothers. Just one of the factors they consider.
