Bison Meat

I was looking at guided hunts and ran across Bison hunts one caught my eye because it gave a list of the meat you can take home and it was less meat you'd get off a small WT doe. Anyway on these hunts what would they do with the other few hundred pounds of meat? On the other hand what would you do with all the meat if you kill a huge trophy bull that has hundreds of lbs of meat? I seen that outfit will take it to their local butcher he shuts down his business just to handle the Bison business he will have coming in. He’s charging $700 for a small bull and $900 for the old big boy. They say to bring 1 or 2 huge chest freezer I would think a generator would kill everything cold and a couple of huge coolers for head and hide. They also said you could just bring several huge coolers for the meat for the smaller bulls if you didn’t have access to multiple chest freezers. Now what to do with all my meat if I bring it all home?
I don’t think I want to give it to the butcher where he sells it for $10 a pound. I guess I could meet up with some hunters on the way home, give to food pantries as well. Has anyone on here ever had this problem? Around my area a lot a people don’t like wild game and we can only eat so much and I don’t think the food pantries around me would want any.

What say you?

Joe if you want good tender bison meat, do not kill one that is over 3 years old. I have killed 4 on different hunts and my trophy bull, about 2,000 pounds on the hoof, was so tough that my wife said no more big trophy bulls.
If you are only taking a couple hundred pounds of meat home, two very large coolers will do and use dry ice on top to keep the meat cold. fold a blanket between the dry ice and meat to prevent any freezer burn from the dry ice.

Listen to the guy(where you kill the bull) who know how many coolers full it will take for a bull Buffalo.

I'm interested also.
$700 for a young Bull and $900 for an old Bull thats for butchering the bison.
Not sure if that’s a good of bad price.
I know I’ve spent several hundred dollars at a time having Slim Jims, Summer Sausage, Brats, Burger made from WT and Elk

My bad thought I posted it.
The site has some really nice pictures of Muley’s and Whitetails. Are those hunt prices good or bad?

Joe hate to tell you I hunted bison in South Dakota about 16 years ago. My trophy bull was $1600.00 and meat bull-cow was $800.00 and that included us staying in a cabin overlooking the river and dinner at the ranch house for 3 hunters and wives. Prices have gone sky high since those days.

Can we go back to those days please?!

It’s interesting he makes you call previous clients to get info. Why wouldn’t they just outright tell you whether or not they’re fenced in? Those are some big buffalo without a doubt.

who are you talking about?...

$8800 to shoot one of his “super trophy bulls”.
Yes, $900 to grind up that meat is a good deal for on site service. You will want to grind damn near all of it, even if he is grain feeding his herd. You will likely not be getting any specialty processing at all at that price. Just a quick grind, probably not adding any beef or pork fat either.

Fenced, farm operation for sure. He can argue all he wants that they are not “high fenced”. I assure you there are no wild bison anywhere near Mellette, South Dakota. Even the Custer State Park “hunt” is going to feel wild compared to what this guy is selling.

The hunting guide says on his website to call all his previous clients
A lot of Outfitters will give names of past hunters it’s just the same as people on here asking if anyone knows an Outfitter and were they happy with their hunts and the job the Guides did. Not sure what the difference is. Aren’t most Bison hunts on private land? I’m sure they are in a fenced in area as to not hurt people or destroy their property. That’s what I got out of the ad anyway

The bear and cougar hunts sound awesome.
Bear hunting up there is world class nothing else like it in NA for a spot and stalk hunt. I've seen 17 bears from one vantage point and the color and consistent size of bears puts it in a different league. Depending on the year 65 to 75% of hunters kill 7ft bears with the rest just below that by a couple inches. We just took a 7ft 10 1/2 bear first week of June by a MM member.

Yes Boone and Crockett recognized as a wild free range herd. Herd runs into Wyoming sometimes too, back and forth, bastards run all over the Bighorn mountains up there lol.
I will be heading up there for a hunt on July 18. Going to be one heck of a hunt. Brad made everything easy setting this hunt up
