Mounted up and ready to shoot. What a difference compared to the single post I had there before.

I was thinking of moving from crosshairs to a single post... really hard to see crosshairs at low light. Thinking for the other close shots the insert type won't matter much

Even with an adjustable aperture, those crosshair inserts don’t work for me. I like the small fiber optic insert. And you can combine that with one of the crosshair options if you like.

I love the finest crosshair one that comes in the Lee Shaver insert kit. My newest sight set from Bad to the Bone has wrapped fiber optic, which is nice in low light but the trade off is it’s bulkier at long range.

Put the Williams sight on my kid's muzzleloader today. Took it outside and quickly realized that I couldn't see the front sight......I had her come out to see what she thought, and she said "What do you mean it's not clear? It looks awesome!"

I ended up putting in the fine crosshair and the fiber optic stacked because that's what she liked the best.

I couldn't even see the crosshairs. I'm going to have to go to the eye doctor.... again. I have to see what is going on to get the gun sighted in at least. My eyes are getting so crappy as I age.

I'm going to go sob by myself now. lol

Sweet little setup though.

PS: The screw(s) that came with the sight were all too long by ~.030 and I had to make a trip to the grinder.....

Happens to the best of us. Sounds like you need an adjustable aperture to bring the front sight into focus (like I do).

Admittedly, I know very little about peep sights. Is that legal to use in Colorado?

I just need something to sight in the gun. My daughter can see the sights fine.

Absolutely. An adjustable aperture just allows you to enlarge or (usually) reduce the size hole you’re looking through so that the eye can focus on the front sight. It’s an aperture/depth of field optical phenomenon.

The Merits are out of production. But you may find one on eBay. This is another option.

After testing things by covering up part of the aperture hole and convincing myself that that black magic you showed me works lol , I ordered a new standard diameter aperture with a .050 hole in this this morning. $15 from midway.

We shall see is that helps me. Those adjustable apertures cost a lot of money so I figured I would give this a try...

Once I get the gun sighted in, I can just switch it back to kiddo's aperture and move on with life.

FINALLY got to shoot with a month until my hunt. I did shoot it a couple of weeks ago but at 50 yards it was about 8" low with the rear sight maxed out at the top
Local gunsmith shimmed up the rear sight and today I shot this two shot group at 50. Not bad. Bummer is at 100 I was off the paper and I THINK high. 95 grains triple 7, with 385 lead conical.
Thinking next session will be at 75 and a bigger target.

Back your charge down to like 70 grains and work up. People seem to want to got rod muzzle loaders.

Max I've ever used with the 385 is 90 grains of Goex or Pyrodex RS, it works fine.

Well looks like you got the elevation up to about where it needs to be.

I’ll be a contrarian - I generally start at about 100-110 gr. Something between 100 and 120 gr or so always works for me with conicals up to 600 grains.

Any guesses how high I should be at 25 yards with my 325 grain ELR Powerbelts and 110 grains of triple 7? Sighting in my gun with my new Williams sights.

95 grains of triple 7 and the Hornady Bore Driver FTX looks like the ticket. I also swapped out the crosshair type front sight and went with the fine fiber optic post. The two almost touching we're at 25 yds, the other two still in the black we're at 100. Next session will be with the chronograph.

In probably gonna get torched here but I can't shoot for **** with that williams peep. I'm lucky to get an 8" group at 100 switched back to factory iron sights. And this is what I shot at 100 300 gr. Thor over 100 gr. of 777.

Not intended to be disrespectful but you best hone your stalking skills in order to get close. That's what's fun about hunting. Best of luck guy's.

i ordered the .019 but the post is too big in my opinion. covers up the target at 100 plus yards. I'm going to get some florescent green spray paint and paint one of the original globe inserts and try that.
That’s what I did. The .019 are still to big….went to hobby lobby and bought some fluorescent green and orange model car paint🤷‍♂️
