My son and I are getting ready to go hunting in area 57 this year. First time in this unit so I do have a few questions if anyone can help me out
How remote is this unit on Onx it appears to be very remote not many big towns to get any provisions from.
Does it get super cold in October like the first two weeks
Camping by the river is that feasible or are there any areas with trees

A few years ago...

There are junipers all across the far southern part of the unit...

We always bring everything we need- but Baggs has supplies to the south, and of course Wamsutter or Rawlins to the north. Check Rawlins average temps for that time of year- and of course it will be +/- 20 from that . Funny, the one time I got sick from hiking in the heat was in that unit during a Sept heat wave. But it can get pretty cool at night in Oct.

Be prepared for VERY slick two track roads in some of that country during a rain. Grease-like to say the least. And you are correct about remote- when we last hunted there, we saw exactly zero other vehicles where we concentrated- so if you get into trouble you'll need to handle it.

I hunted it before winter kill and it was a blast. Saw a hundred bucks a day but I’m not great at scoring them. Saying the roads get greasy when wet is an understatement and I was lucky not to have put it in a wash. Finally shot one that had the look but not the highest scoring buck we saw.

Unit 57 is very very remote & you can get stuck in greasy mud before you know it- be prepared at all times- Cell Phones are iffy at best, get a cell phone range enhancer- take no chances !
But 57 has some great antelope trophy genetics ! I’ve been all over 57 numbers of times - never bagged a monster but saw others that did take excellent bucks- before those damn winters killed 90 % of the antelope- going to take years to recover disaster. It’s a very special place to hunt big antelope, one of my favorites all time.
But I’m still furious at Wyoming for what they did to us NR’s last 10 years. Never be back there !

New here , but I'll echo what others said about the muddy roads. Baggs has a small grocery and a couple restaurants (at least it did last time I was there. Time flies). Cowboy inn had good food and you could get a shower there without renting a room and it was actually very clean. Good luck!
