Congrats! You don't sound like a senior, but I did smell moth balls and BenGay, so there's that...
I pay $50+ a year in California for a license only, tags are about $38 and they go up every year too.
You should see the lifetime license prices too--YIKES!

In August I will buy my first Senior Combo Hunting/Fishing license in Texas. Only $32, a bargain! Unfortunately we can’t buy lifetime senior licenses here.

...I think my first California hunting license was $12-$15. Like you said, it goes up every year.
