11% tax on archery equipment as well

Sportsman Warehouse, Walmart is charging this tax. I've called SW and they said because it's a "weapon". Dumbazz!! Cabelas doesn't add the tax yet.

This is gonna be a cluster.

I saw "archery" and then "tax" in the same sentence of your post so I had to look this up. :D Looks like this tax has been around for a while (part of the FET - federal excise tax). The language around this seems to hint that it applies only to manufacturers and importers with some small print that it may apply to retailers who do some manufacturing of their own.

The other scenario is if a retailer's pro shop subcontracts out some work to a manufacturer then this means they can be subject to the tax.

Some info here: https://archerytrade.org/federal-excise-tax-requirements-and-issues-that-affect-retailers/

Archery items subject to tax: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/smal...f-fishing-and-archery-products#archerysubject

Archery items NOT subject to tax: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/smal...ishing-and-archery-products#archerynotsubject

I think you're missing the key issue. Please go on Sportsman Warehouse and pick any arrows for about $100. Do checkout (don't buy it) and see what your "tax" amount is. Most of us here has 8.25% tax so it should come out to $108. Following me?

But it's not. It's total will be $119. Now do the same thing on Cabelas and you'll only see $108.

Try it!

That's the Pittman Robertson tax. That's been around for a while.

This 11 percent tax they are talking about is a new california tax.

Just did. It was painful to see that price in the end...and for arrows, at that. They're really looking to bleed every single resource for tax purposes.

11% federal tax + 11% July 1 CA guns & ammo tax + ~8.25% to 8.75% CA sales tax

So over 30% tax on all gun and ammo purchases. We should see an immediate drop in gun violence with all this money getting collected.
Just like all major problems in this country. To many people making A LOT of money working on these problems with never finding a solution. Why give up a 6 figure plus salary by finding a solution.

Looks like this great state is charging 11% on archery equipment as well. I thought it was supposed to be firearms and ammo only but that is not the case. Crap!!!!
This plus a new 15 cent increase on gasoline tax that they are not talking about. We pay more in taxes on gas then some state pay for the total gallon what a bunch of crap.
I'm putting a zipper on my wallet pocket but I'm sure these taxing pricks will find a way to get in anyway

Everything keeps going up and being over taxed to support our government, non working people, and greedy companies. Can’t believe how much my last power bill was!!!!😡😡😡😡

Solar is the only way to go. Especially in California they keep raising the rates. Every year we have so much credit that we don't pay a electric bill from May to Oct. We are retired it really helps out on the monthly bills
