Secondary Draw Results

I'll confirm my 4th season deer tag as soon as I get the e-mail. I'm sure there will be no youth that take it first.

Does the 75/25 res/nonres rule apply in the second draw?
No, it's basically a youth draw regardless of whether the youth is a resident or not. A non-resident youth gets preference over adult residents, and I think equal preference to resident youth. What other state would allow a kid from the NE or SE, who can get 3-5+ OTC deer tags every year, to have preference over a Colorado adult resident who is trying to get one deer tag in his home state?

Didn't draw for my daughter.

Swinging for the fences wasn't a good strategy for me or my family this year as this makes 34 rejections notices for this year so far. Ouch.

*UPDATE* Unit 69 Antelope and an Early Rifle Bear tag.

I don’t play the secondary game but my young nephews and neice do. We applied them for a decent deer unit and 2 of the 3 drew the tag. Should be a fun hunt.

I chuckle when I read people’s posts saying don’t bother if you’re an adult - the kids get all the tags. People need to read the draw recaps…..

It’s isn’t that adults apply in the 2nd draw,… it blows my mind that 510 adults didn’t think that at least 8 youth would apply for the 8 available unit 21 buck tags…

get this.....

This is just for deer and elk, and just for adults.... Adults only. Make no mistake... I am 100% in favor of youth having preference in the secondary draw.. But Colorado knows we are suckers and they are feeding on it. Feeding off you!

I'm sure there is a discrepancy in my math, but not much and you'll get the idea....

deer:
21,687 resident adult applicants, 14% were successful. 352 non-resident applicants 5% were successful...., Total income from us, $177,016 American dollars....

Elk:
22437 adult resident applicants, 23% successful. 1595 non-resident applicants, 19% successful. Total income from us, $195,446 American dollars.

Total application income from adults for only deer and elk, $377,462 American dollars.... They really have us figured out...

I guess my point is, don't be one of the 510 adults who thought that 8 youth wouldn't apply for a highly desirable deer unit... A tax for being stupid is a perfect way to describe it...
