I don't think you'll have much trouble finding a decent buck on the Lassen unit. How old is the young man?

I hunted the second season a few years ago. We had a blast. There were lots of animals. Couldn’t find a big one, though.

Plenty of goats to look over....I've spent alot of time in the southeast part of the unit.
Finding a big one can be a challenge.

PM me around the end of the 1st season and I’ll be happy to help you. I’ve got a 1st season tag and plan to start scouting 5 weeks before my hunt starts. I’m looking for a special buck, so I’ll be looking over plenty of bucks, covering most of the unit. The unit kicks out some huge bucks, so the kid has an opportunity for a great hunt.

Look on the other thread and you’ll see a buck that a bow hunter shot on Monday. I scouted yesterday afternoon and saw about 50 antelope, including a nice buck most people would be happy to take. He’s probably 15”+ with big prongs.

Check with me at the end of my season and I’ll have plenty to share with you. Once I’ve got a buck, assuming I shoot one, I’ll be happy to share details on everywhere I’ve scouted and what I’ve seen.

I was out with my dad last year and saw first hand what’s out there. I’ve posted my views and received little interest. We didn’t see any giants but my dad and his hunting bud (both around 80 years old) took good goats. Both over 15”..You guys can have at it and will prob do fine. I hope to see some good bucks in the coming days. My bet is most of you will take 12-14” bucks and be 100 percent happy with your hunts. And nothing wrong with that. The buck we saw in photo is an example of what you COULD find out there if you hunt your ass off. May we all be that lucky!
