We started chasing deer in Aug.

Archery:. Youngest got a quick education in wind direction on a good buck. Pretty much the highlight.

Muzzy:. Saw shooter bucks every day.

Youngest missed a good buck at about 150. Oldest didn't miss on another. Saw the biggest buck I've seen in years, chased it 2 days

Rifle Elk:. Unintas hunting is Uintas hunting. The elk are either there, or they ain't. This year they ain't.

Rifle deer:. Tough. Could lie, but tough. Biggest deer we saw was in town.

Boys both can muzzy elk, but youngest wants to kill a swan. So big game season is over for us.

Reality is reality. Winter put a hammering on the deer. I knew it would, it did.

However. I spent 5 weeks chasing deer with my boys. I won't ever get that time back. When I'm in the nursing home, we ain't gonna talk about the years we cut tags, so Mossback could cash checks. I spend my favorite time of year, with my 2 favorite humans(don't tell the Mrs).

So, in summary. Tough year for killing. One good buck, lots of taking my gun for a walk. But. ID RATHER EAT EVERY TAG FOREVER, than sit home and not hang with the boys. If your for shut downs, or tag cuts, YOUR PRIORITIES ARE OUT IF WACK. Hunting aint about inches. Sorry if you have lost the family, tradition, meat aspect, but I for one, will not allow you to take those things from myself, or anyone else.

@Amy .Thanks to the DWR for always being the bad guy, despite doing your best to create these memories for me.

Great post Hoss. Sounds like an amazing season with your boys.

Where we hunt in CA, it’s absolutely terrible hunting. We put in tons of work and effort for a chance at forked horns, generally. BUT some of my absolute best memories are hunting the elusive forked horn buck with friends and family. Hunting is about so much more than the antlers, or at least it should be. Tags cuts, closing it down…dangerous territory.

I appreciate your summary, thanks for posting. Great to hear you saw the best buck in years, it gives one hope. I think I saw the biggest buck of my lifetime for about two seconds running through the trees but could have been my imagination
