Been to CO many times but always for elk. Cashed in points and am hoping to get out there during archery elk season if time permits. Not sure if we are going for a hotel or possible camper rental. I know the early season we have I've heard "Go high" so preparing for that. Looking forward to seeing some new country and if anyone cares to share any info just PM me.

et us know how the hunt goes. I have 21 NR points and wanted 3rd but think it might be time to move up if I want to hunt this unit.

I had the same tag last year. It was a tough hunt. There was a little early weather that move them in the thick timbered transition areas before the hunt started, then no weather after that or during the hunt. I did not see a buck over 170” and most were 120” to 145” bucks outside of the yearly bucks. I got there three days early and hunted to the end of the hunt. There was yearly 2 points up to 150” bucks in truck beds and hanging in camps. People really started filling tags on the last few days on the hunt to get out of there. People I talked to were not very happy with the hunt in general. It was a fun hunt for me but not the quality hunt that I had anticipated after a decade of saving points for the hunt. Not the end of the world for me and more fun memories regardless. There is a pretty strong back forked three point gene in the unit along with plenty of 3x4’s. With the right expectation it is a fun hunt and unit. This information is from the prospective of me spending 11 total day in the unit one time in my life and not from someone that has hunted for decades in the unit and knowing it like the back of their hand so take my information accordingly. Locals that I talked to with that type of knowledge struggle last year in that unit as well so maybe it was just a bad year due to the conditions. I hunted high to low and most of the deer were in the middle from my finding. Good luck.

I have this same tag this year. Digging in now trying to get a game plan together. Will be bouncing from this tag up to MT for A unexpected 652-50 breaks deer tag. Gonna spend some serious coin on gas this year.

The hunt last fall was a learning experience. We saw plenty of deer but I should've gotten into the thick timber more as I'd heard a few reports of some big boys being spotted. Really loved the country in that unit and it was a fun hunt.

A buck like that is pretty much what you're looking for. I hunted the entire 3rd season in 66 last year daylight until dark and didn't see anything bigger or hear of anything bigger taken.

All the locals were whining , they said it was worse than after the big die off. I don't know, but the Gunnison hay days are over that's for sure.

Nice buck ND! Kool pics! Congrats to your bro and thanks for sharing.
