NR max elk pts

Been looking for ideas on using my pts this year. Starting to feel better than I have the last couple of years and would like to possibly go this year. Thinking about 124 or 100 since I love to glass and stalk and these areas don't seem to be to rugged to get around in. Chances of getting drawn? Sure open to ideas at this point though.

100 will give you the best odds to draw more than likely. The odds to draw have fluctuated some so it is hard to predict what your actual odds will be. 100 is a great hunt to do if you love to glass and stalk.

You can probably draw 100 in the special, although probably won't be 100% odds. Bull Elk draw for 124 has still been running in single digit odds with max points. Good luck whatever you decide.

Wife drew 100 last year with max. We went about a week into the season. She took a nice bull, but we didn’t see the vast amounts of elk we thought we would see. We also only saw one other hunter by showing up late.

Good luck with wherever you apply.

It was her first elk.

Thanks everyone for replies.
MQQSE, congrats to your wife, very nice bull and great picture! I was under the impression that there were lots of elk in 100 and you could sort through them to find a big one.

I would look at 31/30/32/22 also . 22 has some steeper stuff than the others. 31 is the best but not 100 percent odds w max either.

Draw odds are a tricky thing to anticipate. Take area 100 last year: the type 1 bull tags were cut by one third (100 tags), and they were rolled over to the type 2 bull tag (5 points or less on one antler). This dropped the draw odds for the type 1 tag dramatically.

100 is a great elk hunt but they are still wild elk. Going a week into the season means they have felt all the pressure and have found areas to avoid people as much as possible.

There is a very good chance you would not draw any of the hunts mentioned above, even with max points. If you are serious about getting it done, then you might want to look at other units such as 16, 118, 120, and maybe 113. These would have success rates above 60%, for bull elk, which is dang good for elk imo.

Some other with lower success rates would be 11, 23, 24, and 25. These would have success rates between 50 and 60%, which is still dang good for bull elk...but maybe it is a more difficult hunt. For example, there is another thread on this forum warning that you need an ATV in unit 24 or you might end up with limited options.

I believe all of these units had 100% draw rates, with max bonus points, based on most recent available data.

I appreciate all the input with helpful info. After years of applying in some of the units mentioned it is still a long shot to get a tag.
The number of max pt holders trying puts it at about 8-15% .

Facing facts, I am open to ideas for getting out. Would like one great hunt but willing to work out something with someone who needs pts.
