I have a hard time passing up 130”-150” deer on general hunts. I did pass a few bucks this year on the lower end of that but the first buck and only buck I seen close to 150” it was game on. I still have not filled my tag this year. I doubt I will ever be able to hold my finger off the trigger. I have fun and that is what matters to me. My garage is filled with 130”-150” bucks with only a few better than that. I do like anything old or odd so they always get the trigger pull. I voted for above 140” hard for me to pass. Pictures of some of my 130”-150” bucks over the years. A lot of fun memories. I am definitely not a trophy hunter, more of a memory and opportunity hunter. Have fun.

If everyone including youth strived for killing an older age class buck. Things would drastically improve. For deer number s and quality…. FUH the score.
Kill big floppy eared bucks. Ya know at that point genes have been passed good or bad ..

I chose 200+ because trying to kill a mature anything in Utah is similar to how I feel my odds are killing a 200+ buck on a limited entry unit.

I would like to see the state run a “4 pt or better” rule on some gen season units to give folks a swinging chance at a mature buck instead of walking into 2 pt city, trying to shoot a “mature” 2 pt because there’s nothing left that is bigger.

Pretty messed up management tactics when you only see 2 pts breeding does at peak of rut.

I love seeing big old bucks as much as everyone else, but as cwd gets detected more and more how many other agencies will follow what Colorado is doing?

Young bucks don’t have the same genetics as older bucks?
No, when they grow older, their super genetics kick in….just like a male human being for example:

They grow thick, dark, envious beards.

They begin to fit the superior shape the name brand form-fitting clothing was designed for.

Their jaw line becomes chiseled to match the fit and dark beard.

Lastly, because the male genetics evolve with age? the head shrinks ever so slightly to allow those ears to be tucked in a flatty while pushing the now superior male ego lower, thus inflating the form-fit attire needed for the kill.

Hope this explanation of human genetics explains the genetic parallel between man and male creature.???

I operate on a sliding scale.
The more time I have to hunt and if the freezer is full, I will be more selective.
This year my northern UT any weapon tag went unfilled.

Not all general hunts are created equally. Depends on the hunt. I was in a lower end general season hunt this year. We had 5 days and 3 tags. My family eats 200+ lbs game meat a year. I decided going into the hunt I would shoot the first 3 year old I saw and concentrate on my 16 year old son finding a big mature buck. I’ve been to other general hunts where I’ve held out for a 170+ class deer. Just depends on when, where, and why. If that makes sense.

The past 2 years I've held out for 190+ for most of the hunt(Wyoming General Season) and I've been skunked. The last few days of the hunt I would have taken what I thought of as an older age class buck. I've passed a lot of young deer, I can't bring myself to shoot a 170" up and coming buck. I hope in my lifetime, I can kill at least one really big nontypical buck.
