Totally agree. Did the same thing when I drew it back in ‘14 and hands down one of the top hunts of my lifeIt’s an amazing hunt! Funnest hunt if my life so far! Don’t do it from the road access side. Get back in and make an unreal memory and adventure.
My reasons:What made it a top hunt for you guy's? I have enough points to draw. Was it just fun hunting and seeing goats? Did you fish in the area as well? Was considering another unit. Have an elk tag this year.
Thanks
I have one alsoI got a tag and was wondering who else has one. That’s all
93.78% chance that they will be generally in the same area. Maybe not the exact same ridge but they'll be there.Doing a quick scouting run this weekend.
How likely will it be to find goats in same place a month later?
Thanks
Yeh, and your's cost $5 and no points!I have one also
Haha it still cost me $2205.00 and basically 16 points since mountain goat was what I was originally putting in for. So far I still haven't found anything to exciting just nannies and kids so guess we'll see what happens. Goat or not I have to be back to wyoming for deer Oct 1st ?.Yeh, and your's cost $5 and no points!
Good luck fellas. It should be a blast.
By late September their coats will be ok, maybe 4-6". By mid October they will be even better. The later you can do it the better the hair will be, and after mid September even just a week can make a very noticeable differenceCouple weeks to go.
Nice to see goats.
How much longer till those slick summer coats start filling out?View attachment 85136
You know you can't Roadhunt goats. Right?Haha it still cost me $2205.00 and basically 16 points since mountain goat was what I was originally putting in for. Yeah unfortunately ??. We did hike in 8 miles yesterday and finally saw a couple billies. Definitely not like a Timp tag where you hike in and see 70 goats on 1 draw. Definitely rough mentally only seeing 3 in that far but I guess all it takes is 1 haha. To answer the muley question I need all of them ???You know you can't Roadhunt goats. Right?
And I'd say your goat hunt should take priority to a Muley opener. I mean how many great muley bucks does one man need???
Tough hunts make great memories, especially OIAL hunts!Yeah unfortunately ??. We did hike in 8 miles yesterday and finally saw a couple billies. Hard to say as the pics are very fuzzy.Billy or nanny?
That's part of it, makes it look like a horse. It's also just the distance between the eyes and the nose--it should be much larger than the length of the ears, and the horns should be longer than the ears too. There's also just an unmistakable "look" that an old billy has body and face wise. Giant linebacker shoulders, long and thick arched neck, sway back and potbelly.Johnny-
Are you using his face being dish shaped instead of like a bridge as part of your assessment?
Beautiful, love the hair! How about this one

Just remember they're all white spikes ?. I'm not going to be to picky with my tag on this one haha.Looks good to me. Is it?
Ain't that the truth! The trophy on a goat to me is 99.99% the hair. The difference between a young, immature billy's horns and a gagger book billy's horns is an inch or two in length and then mass. Pretty hard to gauge that and make the call when you're on the mountain looking at a fluff ball bouncing around the cliffs a few hundred yards away. And just about everybody who ever sees the mount won't have the slightest clue if you shot a 2 yr old 7.5" billy or a 10 yr old 10" monster. They'll just see the hair.Just remember they're all white spikes ?. I'm not going to be to picky with my tag on this one haha.
Close. 9 7/8 horns and aged at 5 years old. In 2 weeks would of been shot a year ago. Knew he was a good goat but ended up over an inch more than I thought. Beautiful animals.Gorgeous billy there, 5-6 yrs old and right around 9" maybe a little over would be my guess
I didn't make it very long.... hahaAin't that the truth! The trophy on a goat to me is 99.99% the hair. But on that note, do yourself a favor and try to hunt as late into the season as you can. Even just one more week can make a very big difference on the coat quality.
Just dangle that juicy bit out there a little longer why don't ya?! Come on! Put up some pics!I didn't make it very long.... haha
Here they come haha. Sorry I was tired and sore. It was straight to bed ??Just dangle that juicy bit out there a little longer why don't ya?! Come on! Put up some pics!
